Ayla opened Juliet’s Instagram page. She saw photos of Juliet visiting Skyla’s lab. Juliet was pretty and loved taking pictures. The post was from just yesterday.

Seeing the post dampened Ayla’s mood.

As long as Juliet was happy, that was enough.

Today, Troy planned to make his marriage to Ay a public. He dressed carefully, neat and formal. The gown he had sent Ayla earlier matched his suit perfectly. Anyone could tell they were meant to appear as a couple.

Troy picked up the birthday gift for his grandfather and drove straight to the estate.

He thought Ayla would either refuse or agree at the last minute. He didn’t expect her to arrive ahead of him.

She was more proactive than he imagined.

That was a good sign.

Once the guests arrived, he would hold Ayla’s hand and walk in with her. If anyone asked, he would introduce her as his wife, right in front of Draven.

He doubted Ayla would cause a scene or embarrass him in public.

Troy drove fast.

He arrived at the estate soon enough. As usual, Lincoln came out to greet him. Troy glanced past Lincoln but didn’t see Ayla.

His mood darkened at once. Fine, she had hung up on him earlier. She was already at the estate and still didn’t come out to meet him?

Troy handed the gift in his hands to Lincoln without much thought,

Martin’s birthday wasn’t a big event, but friends from all over the country had sent gifts. They were piled up neatly on the table in the living room.

Troy looked around. The staff moved quietly in and out, busy as bees. He didn’t find the wrapped art piece he had bought for Ayla to give to his grandfather.

He frowned.

Lincoln remembered Martin’s instructions. “Mr. Martin is waiting for you in the study.”

Troy frowned. Was Ayla in the study with his grandfather?

The reception room, study, and tea room were all on the first floor.

Troy walked over quickly.

He knocked on the study door. After hearing Martin’s voice, he pushed the door open.

Ayla wasn’t inside.

Had she arrived too early and gone upstairs to rest? That would be far too improper.

Martin was practicing calligraphy. He didn’t look up.

Troy stepped closer.

“Grandpa, happy birthday.” He looked at the bold strokes on the paper, strong and steady, just like Martin himself.

“Looking for Ayla?” Martin asked.

Troy paused, then said, “Yeah, I didn’t see her. Today is your birthday. I was going to remind her-”

Martin dipped his brush in ink and gave a short laugh. “No need. Ayla has already left.”

“She left?”

Troy froze. He had been watching the writing, but now he lifted his head sharply. Realizing his reaction was too strong, he forced himself to calm down. His heart, however, was far from calm. “Today is your birthday,” he said. “Where could she have gone?”

Deep down, he assumed Ayla must have gone to the resort, a property developed by Winston Group, the place where they would hold the party today.

He had gone there with Ayla once.

“She said her grandmother wasn’t feeling well,” Martin had told him calmly. “I asked her to visit the old lady. Don’t go looking for her. Ayla will come later.”

Martin usually stayed out of the young couple’s affairs. He hadn’t paid attention to many

small details. But if things had reached the point of separation, Troy bore most of the responsibility.

Martin wanted to see for himself what Ayla would say and do when she came back that evening.

“But today is your birthday,” Troy said. “That won’t do. I have to go find her.”

As he spoke, he was ready to leave.

“Come back,” Martin said, frowning. “It’s just a birthday. It’s no different from yesterday or tomorrow. Your dad insisted on holding this party. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have bothered.”

“But-”

“No buts.” Martin looked at him, clearly displeased. “What’s more important? My birthday or Ayla’s grandmother’s health? It’s getting late. The guests will arrive soon. If you leave now, what will people think?”

Some relatives would arrive at the estate early. The house needed someone to stay and greet

them.

Since Troy was already here, leaving now would be inappropriate.

“Go on,” Martin said.

Troy clenched his teeth and left the study. Deep down, he felt Ayla was doing this on

purpose.

But she had already gone to Martin first and explained everything clearly. There were no loose ends at all.

Troy walked into the yard and called Ayla. She didn’t answer.

This is ridiculous!

What is Ayla trying to do?

He sent her a message instead.

“Get here before lunch. Got it?”

No reply.

Troy clenched his fist in anger. He was already wearing his wedding ring. He had bought Ayla clothes and gifts. He had even planned to pick her up himself.

In the past, Ayla would have waited at the foot of the mountain road for his car. He had changed so much for her, and now she didn’t even appreciate it?

What exactly was Ayla planning?

His face stiffened. For the first time, a trace of unease crept into his heart.

Just then, Skyla called.

He was already upset because of Ayla. He didn’t have the energy to deal with Skyla, but if he didn’t answer, she would overthink it.

In the end, Troy picked up the call but didn’t speak.

“Troy,” Skyla said softly. “Are you free? If you are maybe I can go with you?”
