Even if she tried to keep her distance, the choice was not really Ayla’s. It was Draven’s. Could he truly respect that line? Could he really pull back his feelings like a machine and never cross it again?
That was not something she could control.
And if they were together…
Ayla’s head started to ache. This wasn’t just about boundaries anymore. It was about how she felt about Draven. Sometimes she was struck by his looks. He was handsome and calm, with a presence that drew people in. She admired his character too. But she had never let herself fantasize about him.
So keeping her distance still seemed like the safest choice.
Yet the problem looped back again. Could Draven’s feelings really disappear just because he decided they should?
Ayla’s thoughts tangled into a mess. Just then, Kaleb finally snapped out of it and blurted out his answer, firm and loud. “I don’t agree. You two are not allowed to be together.”
His words cut straight through Ayla’s thoughts.
Kaleb looked even more worked up than before. You can’t be together!”
Ayla asked without thinking, “Why?”
“Why?” Kaleb stared at her. “You’re really asking me why? Draven is Troy’s older brother. You finally got divorced. You should stay far away from that family forever. And now your next relationship is with Troy’s brother? Ayla, you already got hurt once. Why are you walking straight into trouble again? Are you really that foolish?”
Ayla said calmly, “I’ve already told you. They are completely different people. Draven doesn’t even share their last name. He’s not really part of the Winstons.”
“Yes, they’re half-brothers,” Kaleb shot back. “Of course there are differences. But they still share blood. With Troy’s awful personality, what good do you expect? Look at his sister; she’s exactly the same. And Draven is even scarier. Troy is obvious. Draven plays dirty. From the start, his intentions weren’t clean. Ayla, do you really think you’d be with him just because your heart moved? I seriously doubt it. I think you’ve already fallen into his trap.”
Seeing how fired up Kaleb was getting, Ayla cut. “Enough. Let’s stop talking about Draven and Troy for a moment. Let’s talk about you.” Her voice softened. “I feel like your hostility isn’t really toward Draven. You just don’t want me to enter another relationship. No matter

who I’m with, you’d react the same way. So tell me, are you just afraid I’ll get hurt again?”
Her calm, guiding tone slowed Kaleb down a little, but his face still looked grim. “Of course I am,” he said. “Your marriage to Troy already proved my worries were valid. Ayla, when you fall in love, you give everything. Right now, you’re clear-headed. But what if you sink deeper and the same tragedy happens again? Don’t push me to the point where I really have to drag you away and lock you up.”
Ayla asked again, “Then what kind of man do you think I should be with?”
“You will seriously follow my advice?” Kaleb snapped. “You’re already with that scheming guy!” He was furious. “You never listen to me!”
Ayla nodded. “That’s true. I didn’t.”
Kaleb choked on his words. “You-”
“Tell me,” Ayla said gently. “In your eyes, what kind of man is right for me?”
Somehow, Kaleb got pulled into her rhythm. He glared at her, then blurted out, “If I had to pick one, that pretty boy Casey actually suits you just fine.”
Ayla looked surprised. “How do you even know Casey?”
“I’m not blind,” Kaleb said. “There’s a huge poster outside. I saw it.”
Ayla smiled. “Why him?”
“Why else?” Kaleb replied. “Because he’s easy to control. He’s a pretty boy, looks good, and he works for you. You’re the boss. Of course he has to please you and watch your mood to keep his job.”
“So in the end,” Ayla said softly, “you’re just afraid I’ll get hurt.”
“Yes!” Kaleb’s face turned serious. His worry was obvious. “That’s the only thing I care about. I looked into Draven. Troy is the Winstons in Tresea, but Draven has a huge family in Zheron. He’s powerful on his own, too. He’s strong in everything he does, and he’s very forceful. I’ve even seen how you lower yourself front of him, acting careful and small. That’s not right. That’s an unequal relationship.
“Ayla, you finally got your freedom,” Kaleb said, is voice tight. “Why don’t you live like your best friend? Halle has everything she needs. Why choose hardship again? Even if you really want to date, just have fun. Date a few pretty guys. Be relaxed. Be free.”
After listening to him, Ayla fully understood what he meant. His anger and frustration came from worry and care for her.

It was just his personality. Kaleb never knew how to explain things calmly. He always exploded first.
Ayla smiled. “I hear all your concern. Thank you little brother.”

Kaleb froze for a second. He hated it when she softened like this. It messed with his emotions and only made him angrier. “So what? Knowing that changes nothing. You still need to break up with Draven!”
Kaleb truly couldn’t understand what was so good about dating. He had zero interest in it. Women would only distract him from his games. He had no such thoughts at all.
Yet Ayla kept falling for men again and again. And they were always the same type.
Kaleb finally understood. His sister liked men like Troy and Draven. The sweet, obedient pretty boys probably felt boring to her.
