After all that talking, the biggest gain was simple Kaleb was no longer that worried about Ayla.

He knew she could handle things. He truly believed in her.

All because of one sentence-on the road of loving yourself, you meet someone walking the

same way.

Kaleb understood what it meant. Ayla learned to love herself first. That was why she met someone who walked beside her. And even if that person left halfway, she would still love herself.

He finally understood it all.

Ayla said calmly, “He might not even care about whether you like him or not.”

Kaleb let out a short laugh. “When he said he wanted to be my brother-in-law, he also said I could test him however I wanted. Trust me, he cares a lot about what I think.” He grinned in a bad way. “Since you’re dating now, I’ll give you my blessing. So here it is-I hope you two will break up soon.”

Ayla raised her hand to hit him. Kaleb didn’t dodge. When she reached him, he grabbed her wrist. This time, he actually used some strength. She couldn’t pull free.

“What are you doing?” Ayla frowned.

Kaleb put on a fierce face. “Say sorry.”

“Sorry for what?”

“You hid the thing with Draven from me. If I hadn’t seen it myself, were you planning to never tell me?”

Ayla sighed. She gave in. “Fine. I admit that. From now on, if anything happens, you’ll be the first to know. I won’t let you worry.”

Kaleb felt much better hearing that. That small not in his chest finally loosened.

At least for now.

He smiled lightly.

When he didn’t smile, he looked like a cold, grown man, but when he smiled, his boyish side came out. He actually looked adorable.

“Aren’t you letting go yet?” Ayla asked.

Kaleb didn’t. A flash of pride crossed his eyes. His smile faded, and he spoke seriously, “I don’t have as much life experience as you, but look at me now.”

He even gestured with his hand. “I’m almost a head taller than you. You can’t even break free from my grip. So if we’re talking about fighting, you’d lose. You have to admit that.” He added, “I have to be better than you at something, or I’d be completely useless.”

He looked at her and continued, “For the past three years, I was bitter and stubborn. I trapped myself in a dead end. I ignored you. I didn’t care about you. But I can learn. I won’t be like that anymore. I just want to protect you. I’m not smart, but I have strength. I can use it to protect you. I really don’t want you to get hurt. I just want you to be safe. To live happily. To do what you want. And I will always support you

Before he even finished, Ayla’s tears started falling. She looked at him through tears. “This doesn’t sound like something you’d say. You’ve grown up so much.”

“Maybe the mood hit me,” Kaleb said, a little awkward now. But his words were honest. “In this world, there’s only one person I truly care about. That’s you, Ayla. You’re the most important person to me.” There was a sharp, stubborn light in his eyes. “I’ll be watching you.”

Ayla cried and fell straight into her little brother’s arms.

Kaleb rarely got this close to her anymore. He raised a hand and patted her shoulder, his voice stiff. “I didn’t think you’d cry.”

Ayla hadn’t expected it either.

“Don’t worry. I won’t be like this forever. I hate cheesy stuff the most,” Kaleb rattled on. “I will never say things like this to you again. This memory should disappear. And you’re not allowed to mention it either.”

Ayla was speechless.

She was actually glad she had taken the time to explain things to Kaleb. Their personalities were different, but as long as the heart was in the right place, people could change-slowly.

Thinking about the years when they barely spoke to each other, Ayla would never have imagined that Kaleb would one day say things that almost made her cry.

She let go of her little brother. “Alright. I’ll listen to you. I won’t mention it again.”

Kaleb made her promise. “No one else can talk about it either.”

Ayla smiled. “Okay. I won’t tell anyone. I’ll keep all in my heart.”

Kaleb felt awkward. He didn’t know whether to look friendly or cold. In the end, he realized he still preferred the fierce version of Ayla. When she was this gentle, he didn’t know how to act. “There’s nothing more to say,” he muttered. I hope you two break up soon. On the day

break up, I’ll treat you to dinner.”

Ayla sighed and smacked his arm.

Kaleb leaned fully into it, he was shameless. “Didn’t hurt at all. Hit me all you want. I’m not scared.”

Ayla knew it. She didn’t bother arguing with him anymore and urged him to leave.

Not long after Kaleb left, Ayla received a call from Draven.

Between the kiss on her forehead and everything Kaleb had said, she could no longer deny the truth. Draven liked her.

Pretending nothing had happened was no longer possible.

Ayla sat in her office chair, her fingers moving over the mouse as she scrolled through her schedule. Her eyes were on the screen, but her attention was completely on the phone.

This was how Ayla acted when she was nervous.

Draven’s voice came through the receiver. “Are you and Kaleb okay?”

He was asking about Kaleb, but Ayla had already pushed her brother out of her mind.
