Chapter 40 I Really Like Her Mysterious Vibe

“Ms. Keaton, let’s not chat now. I’ll hit you up when I have time.”

He was about to pull out his phone to get her number, but Draven was already walking out.

James muttered “damn,” quickly said “bye,” and disappeared.

Ayla was so confused.

What the hell was that?

Ayla really liked the tree–shaped glass, so she did not return it.

“Do you have the receipt?”

The store assistant replied, “It’s in your bag.”

Ayla glanced at it. The cup cost 38,000 dollars.

“Alright, thanks.”

She had dinner at the mall, got home, put her new clothes in the wardrobe, put the glass on the display shelf, and after washing up, she lay in bed. It was exactly ten at night.

She grabbed her phone and sent Draven a photo.

“You initiated a transfer of 38,000 dollars.”

James had arrived in Trensea, played tennis in the afternoon, and went to a small private drinking gathering in the evening.

Since it was private, he had no real reservations, so he filled Draven’s cup with alcohol.

“Are you avoiding your mom by not

oming back to Zheron? We’ve all heard she’s pushing you to get married, but none of the matches appeal to you. Your standards are high, we get it.”

James teased, “But I think there’s someone who’s perfect for you.”

Herman thought of Ayla but did not

He happened to run into her, and Draven happened to notice her.

Draven, used to ignoring women all his life, was rare to take note of her at all.

So, this was promising.

Herman looked surprised. “You know Ayla?”

James laughed. “Damn, seriously? You know her, too? You must be thinking the same thing!”

Herman nodded.

James looked like he had met a kindred spirit. “Ayla has this cold and calm demeanor around our CEO. She’s not flustered at all! How many women could even do that? The rest would blush or get weak in the knees, trying to fall into my buddy’s arms!”

Herman pushed up his silver–rimmed glasses. “It was pretty much what I saw. They’re from the same world; we’re just ordinary.”

James thought he had exclusive gossip, but was a step late and asked curiously, “How do you know Ayla?”

Herman replied, “She’s Draven’s secretary.”

Hearing that, James got even more excited. “What perfect timing, Draven! You’ve got a connection right here! You’d better act fast, and she might even like you.”

But Draven ignored the teasing completely.

His phone buzzed, and Ayla had sent him a message.

Very few knew Draven’s personal contact, partly because he hated being disturbed. If she bugged him for nothing, he would block her.

He opened it.

“You have a pending transfer.”

Attached was just the receipt. No extra words.

Draven did not say anything.

James leaned over. “What are you looking at?”

Draven flipped his phone facedown on the table, and took a sip of wine. “Nothing.”

James focused on his icy expression. “Did you hear what we said?”

Draven replied, “You should close down your bank and start being a matchmaker.”

James asked, “How do you know I was planning that?”

Draven gave him a cold glance, silent, a warning in itself

James‘ swagger dropped immediately. He asked Herman, “So he’s going to become a monk?”

Herman recalled Draven shielding Ayla from drinking and knowing she was sick.

Those subtle cares were not something Draven normally did.

Still, he said, “You’re overthinking it. He might date someone, but it definitely won’t be Ayla.”

James did not believe easily, so Herman emphasized, “I wear, not joking.”

James asked, “Why not?”
