Shawn shot a quick look at Draven and cleared his throat. “Uh… That’s not really necessary, right?”
Draven said calmly, “Let’s go.”
Shawn was stunned.
Ayla was clearly asking out of concern. But Draven? He definitely wasn’t being kind. He was going to see his love rival.
Ayla’s phone screen was cracked, but it still worked. She called Halle back right away. On the call, Halle cursed Troy nonstop. Ayla soothed her a bit, then hung up.
Halle was already waiting at the hospital.
The moment Ayla got out of the car, Halle saw her injured knee. Even though the blood had dried, it still looked terrible. Then she saw the dark bruises on Ayla’s wrist.
Halle’s eyes turned red. She looked like an angry cat ready to claw someone.
“Damn it!”
Her heart hurt badly. She would rather be the one injured than see Ayla like this.
“Come on, let’s get you cleaned up and checked.
Draven was right there. Normally, Halle would greet him politely. Right now, she acted like he didn’t exist at all. She grabbed Ayla and headed straight for the ER.
It was strange. When Ayla saw Draven, she wanted to cry, but the tears never came. She knew that with him there, nothing bad would happen. But when she saw the worry in Halle’s eyes, she really wanted to cry.
This was her best friend. Just like family.
Ayla’s knee was badly scraped, the skin almost torn open. It looked raw and bloody. When the doctor cleaned the wound, the pain made her face turn pale,
Halle couldn’t bear to look. She turned her head way, wiped the tears that came from worry, and tried to look tough.
Ayla grabbed her hand and squeezed gently. “It’s… fine… Ouch-”
Halle snapped back right away. “Can you be more careful?!”

The nurse panicked. ‘I-I’m sorry…”
Ayla spoke first. “It’s okay. Please continue.”
Then she tugged on Halle’s hand and smiled at her. “Relax, okay?”

Halle was just worried. She didn’t want Ayla to feel any more pain. Every time she thought about how these injuries happened, her anger flared up. But Ayla’s smile calmed her right
away.
If Ayla wasn’t afraid, then she didn’t need to be afraid either.
Halle calmed down. She apologized to the nurse, then stayed quietly by Ayla’s side.
Shawn looked at Draven, who hadn’t followed them in. “You’re not going?”
Draven shook his head. “Nope.”
Shawn frowned. “This is exactly when you should be there. What do you think Ayla’s gonna think? Do you know how Halle reacted when she found out Ayla was missing? She begged me for help so hard I almost died. If I’d been one step slower, she might’ve strangled me.”
But almost at the same time, Draven had already called him.
Draven had reacted way faster than Shawn. All Shawn really did was send a helicopter.
Draven looked at him calmly. “That’s why I’m not worried. She has Halle with her.”
In Ayla’s heart, Halle mattered far more than he did. Ayla was only pretending to be his girlfriend. The real hurt, the real fear-she would only pour that out to her best friend. If he went in now, he’d just be in the way.
Still, Draven knew Ayla wouldn’t ignore him tonight. After all, he was hurt too.
He could play the pity card for once.
Ayla had also said she’d come find him once things settled. She would probably want to talk about Troy. Troy’s reaction tonight had been extreme. Even if Ayla didn’t bring it up, Draven would ask.
So there was no need to interrupt the two girls right now.
Shawn had no idea what Draven was thinking. He felt speechless. “You’re this cold to your girlfriend?”
Draven didn’t explain. “Let’s go see him.”

His gaze turned sharp as it landed on Shawn. “The guy you set Ayla up with.”
Shawn’s face stiffened.

Noah had been hit hard. There was a cut on his forehead and a mild concussion. The wound had already been treated, but he still needed to stay in the hospital for a few days.
When Shawn and Draven walked in, Noah was talking to a coworker about work arrangements during his hospital stay. Hearing footsteps, he put his phone down and saw Shawn enter first.
If Shawn was here, that meant Ayla was safe. Noah finally relaxed.
“Shawn, I’m not trying to force anything, but since you’re the middleman, help me come up with a casual excuse to get Ayla to visit me. Look at my head. If I don’t play this up a little, it’s a waste. Help me out.”
Noah knew this wasn’t really Ayla’s fault. He wouldn’t blame her for getting hurt. But it was connected to her.
He was almost laughing himself awake with excitement. He’d been worried about how to get closer to Ayla. Now he had the perfect excuse. Getting hit for her gave him way too much room to work with. If he couldn’t use this chance, he might as well quit trying.
He even felt like thanking the guy who hit him for “helping love along.” If he ended up marrying Ayla, that man might even get a mention in his wedding vows.
Noah wasn’t being delusional. He was 31. Living carefree when he was younger had been normal. No responsibility, no pressure. But now he wanted to settle down. That was why he agreed to a blind date in the first place. He was dating with marriage in mind.
