Divorce and Freedom: No More Homemaker for Him
Chapter 474 Tough Conversation
Troy let out a cold laugh. “With Bria’s temper, you really think you can reason with her?”
Ayla said, “That’s none of your concern.”
Troy’s face turned dark.

Ayla stared right at him. Troy looked like he wanted to say something, but he held back. That restraint caught her off guard. It felt unexpected and strange.
Then everything went quiet. The air turned stiff and awkward.
Ayla waited for a long time. When Troy still didn’t say anything, she knew this was how it was going to end.”
After all, Bria had clearly started it. That was already set in stone. Troy couldn’t be too aggressive now.
Ayla just stood there, waiting for Bria.
But with Troy standing nearby, she couldn’t act too at ease. She had to stay alert, just in case.

Still, as long as she stayed calm, Kaleb would stay calm too. She also wanted him to see for himself that she really didn’t care about Troy anymore. Seeing it was better than hearing her say it. That way, Kaleb would feel more at ease.
And he really did. Kaleb had been staying quiet the whole time. Ayla hadn’t expected that, but it was definitely a good thing.
Just as Ayla looked away from Troy, something suddenly felt familiar. She glanced back at him and looked down.
Troy was wearing a gray striped tie. Wasn’t that the one she bought for him?
Ayla looked up and met Troy’s cold gaze.
The man had been watching her. He saw her glance and said in a sarcastic tone, “What are you looking at?”
Ayla didn’t respond.
“The tie?” Troy followed her gaze and looked down, then sneered after thinking for a second. “You bought this? Figures. It’s ugly as hell.”
Ayla said, “If it’s so ugly, why’d you even wear it out? Didn’t you look in the mirror this morning?”
Troy said, “You dumped so much garbage in my closet. How would I know which ones came from you?”
The way he talked was nasty, but Ayla wasn’t hurt. She was just surprised. Back when they were married, he never wore anything she gave him. Now, whatever he wanted to wear was his business. It had nothing to do with her.
Ayla gave him a cold look, then turned away.
Kaleb leaned over and whispered, “Ayla, divorcing him was the best decision you ever made.”

He said it like a whisper, but both Troy and Isabella heard him.
Kaleb did that on purpose, just to get under their skin.

Ayla didn’t respond. Troy had been quiet these past few days because she’d shut him down last time. He was still waiting for a call from her that was never going to come. The longer he waited, the better. Once he realized she’d never go back, that would be the end of it.
Not long after, Bria walked out looking pale, with Renee helping her along.
Her right forearm was wrapped in white gauze. Renee held that arm carefully, moving with exaggerated caution..
The first person Bria saw was Kaleb. She snorted out a sharp breath through her nose.
Bria’s status let her ignore most people. Kaleb was just Ayla’s younger brother. Before she tried to mess with him, she ran a quick background check. He was just some rookie startup guy with no real backing. His company was on the verge of collapse. He was a nobody. A complete joke. Her friends all came from wealthy, well–connected families. Any paperwork Kaleb needed to run his company could be stopped by someone she knew. It’d be effortless to wreck him.
And yet Kaleb dared to fight back. He dared to act cocky. He refused to let her blow off steam on him. What a wild, disobedient mutt. But no matter how stubborn he was, he was still a dog. He should’ve just lowered that proud head in front of her. That was how it was supposed to be.
Bria wasn’t even supposed to get hurt. When she fell, she secretly stuck out her arm on purpose to scrape it. Otherwise, she’d have no reason to pin this all on Kaleb. The pain was brutal, but what hurt more was the thought of losing the upper hand.
Getting injured was a small price to pay.
And now that she was hurt, Kaleb couldn’t act arrogant. Ayla had to show up. And she’d have to lower her tone and play nice just to keep Bria calm.
Two birds with one stone.
If Bria had known Kaleb could fight, she would’ve just called a bodyguard. Would’ve saved herself the pain.
But it didn’t matter. She got what she wanted. Bria was thrilled.
She stared at Kaleb like he was trash, then gave Troy a pitiful look and exaggerated her story for sympathy.
