Rolf got Halle’s message and waited at the café downstairs.

He’d been interviewing people every day lately, and he was already numb to it. There were plenty of smart people in the field, but people like Skyla were rare.

When Ayla didn’t respond, Rolf looked away and fell silent.

Yesterday, he couldn’t understand why Ayla acted like a mad dog, snapping at him nonstop. Usually, Ayla would consider his status and try to please him–she’d never dare talk back.

The sudden attitude change had to mean Troy warned her. That’s probably why she looked up his schedule to come find him.

He had to admit–Ayla really listened to Troy.

If they were a loving couple, Ayla taking her husband’s words to heart would be understandable, and maybe even make singles jealous.

But they weren’t. Acting like this only made Ayla look desperate. People would look down on her.

Thinking this, Rolf scoffed and took a slow sip of his coffee.

He checked his watch. It was already the time he’d set with Halle.

But the person hadn’t arrived yet.

“How much longer?”

Half a minute later, Halle replied, “Five minutes.”

Five minutes was fine. Not too long to wait.

Ayla finally got her coffee. She didn’t bother with Rolf’s weird comment.

She opened the access code Halle had sent her, passed through the pedestrian gate, and took the elevator up to ZeitTech.

Halle’s secretary was already waiting by the elevator. She walked over with a smile. “This way, please.”
