Divorce and Freedom No More Homemaker for Him novel Chapter 483

Chapter 483 Social Event

Ayla used to be the one shadowing him. After she left, Sacha took over.

Blake was leading the way, but Sacha picked up on the tension right away.

That was the thing about being out with Draven. You had to stay sharp the entire time. One slip, and you’d feel it in the air.

What was up with him tonight?

Was he pissed?

The dinner had gone great. Everyone at the table had status, but no one acted out. Even when someone didn’t click with him, Draven usually couldn’t care less.

Tonight, though, something had clearly gotten to him.

Draven had been back stateside for months. Sacha had seen how he worked. Everything he did was smooth. He kept a perfect balance. He wasn’t too cold or too warm. Just enough to make people respect him without feeling smothered.

That balance was hard to pull off. When you were at the top, it took effort just to figure out who was being real. Keeping everyone in line costs energy.

But Sacha didn’t dwell on it. She had work to do. The dinner wasn’t over yet, and she needed to bring up some files fast. Her laptop was beside her, and she had a whole stack of documents in hand. Things were winding down. This part was always the most standard yet necessary. The kind of wrapup where people dropped the act and tried to connect for real.

They’d talk about hobbies. Home life. Light stuff.

Draven could steer the conversation like a pro. He had enough life experience to pull from.

Still, Sacha found that kind of man unsettling. He didn’t have any obvious quirks or rough edges. Everything he did felt calculated, like it had been rehearsed a hundred times.

Most CEOS fit a mold. Workaholic. Intense. Maybe charming. Sometimes loud and brash.

Draven didn’t fit anything.

Even when the room was a storm of egos, he’d sit calm in the center, just watching. No one ever had a clue what he was really thinking. Happy? Annoyed? No way to tell.

That freaked her out. Sacha needed feedback. If she cared about someone, she had to know they cared back. Otherwise, her brain went haywire.

If her boyfriend acted like Dravencool, unreadable, hard to readshe’d be a mess. She’d have no idea if he was happy when she was. No idea if he got her at all. That kind of emotional fog? It made her feel helpless.

Not that she thought she actually understood Draven. She barely knew anything about him.

But tonight, something was different.

He clearly didn’t feel like talking. Still, he didn’t stop the conversation either. He just sat there, checked out, letting time tick by. That wasn’t normal for him. If things dragged, Draven always cut to the point. Tonight? He let it drag.

Yeah, it’s off.

Didn’t know he’d have moments like this.

Sacha felt like she’d stumbled onto a glitch in the matrix.

Work didn’t always have to be so uptight. Her brain had already veered into wild theory territory.

Maybe Draven just had to pee and didn’t want to interrupt. That idea actually made her laugh a little. Right then, her phone buzzed. Ayla had texted her.

[Where are you?]

Sacha had been crushed when Ayla left. The woman got things done like a machine. Sacha loved riding that kind of wave.

She dropped her location right away.

[Aylaaa, you miss me or something?]

That was just her style. She, Ayla, and a few other assistants had a private chat. Four or five of them. Super casual. No one forced replies. They’d talk about work, new food spots, and cute stuff they found. Everyone already knew what Ayla had been up to since switching jobs.

Sacha texted, [About to wrap up. Wanna grab a drink?]

Ayla was already driving over. She replied while on the move, [Isn’t your husband picking you up? Don’t you two have some romantic thing planned?]

Sacha replied, [Ugh. I wanna ditch him. Girlsnight sounds way better.]

Sacha loved the good life. Food, drinks, shoppingshe was a walking Yelp review. Her husband spoiled her. She had a killer job. From the outside, she had it all. And honestly? She kind of did. Still, a night with the girls hits different.

Ayla texted, [Almost there. What should I grab you?]

Sacha didn’t hesitate. She wanted hot cocoa. Ayla knew her taste like it was her own and picked one up.
