Chapter 531 Quiet Tides

Draven’s long fingers rested on the handle of his suitcase. While he casually chatted with James, the small movements of his lips kept pulling his mind back to those moments from earlier.
“Oh, something had happened between you two!” Halle exclaimed excitedly. “So, when did it happen?”
“… This morning.”
“This morning?” Halle thought for a second, then leaned close and whispered in her ear. “So was Mr. Storm too tired, or do you have endless energy? You look way too fresh for someone who had a wild night.”
Ayla’s ears turned red. “It’s not like that.”
“Then what is it?”
Ayla was wearing a white dress. Her neck and arms were fully exposed. There wasn’t a single mark anywhere.
“Look at your skin. Nothing. So nothing really happened.”
If Halle hadn’t said it, Ayla wouldn’t have even noticed.
No wonder when Draven kissed her neck and other visible places, he was always gentle. But in places covered by clothes, he was completely different.
Much rougher. He sucked and nipped, leaving little love bites.
So, he simply didn’t want anyone to see and start guessing or teasing her. Or maybe Draven knew she wasn’t as thick–skinned as him and wanted to protect her feelings.
Being cared for quietly like that felt really nice.
A sweetness filled Ayla’s chest. She couldn’t help glancing forward.
Draven was dressed in a black resort–style outfit. He looked serious, distant, and elegant. It was a world different from how dominant he was in bed.
Ayla leaned close to Halle and briefly explained that they hadn’t gone all the way. Then she followed Halle to her room to help pack while they talked about work. Sneaking work into small bits of free time–that was just part of life when you were the boss.
Someone knocked on the door.
Ayla opened it. Draven stood outside. “Shawn’s almost here. Want to go together?”
Blake’s room was across from Halle’s, and her door was open.
fib
She watched Ayla hug Halle, kiss her cheek, and cling to her. Why didn’t Draven warn Halle to keep some distance?
Did he think Ayla might switch sides?

Then Blake suddenly understood.
Halle was like family from Ayla’s side. And she was by Draven’s side.
Be nice to her family.
Be cold to his people.
Wow. Double standards.
“Okay,” Ayla said. She waved goodbye to Halle and held Draven’s hand.
On the way downstairs, Ayla couldn’t help rubbing her cheek lightly against his arm.
Draven felt it and turned to look at her.
They just looked at each other. No words.
A simple gesture that didn’t need words. Even one look felt like a full conversation.
Draven realized his girlfriend was being extra clingy. This was likely due to their growing physical intimacy. She kept brushing her skin against him.
Maybe he really did crave her touch, because he liked it a lot.
His heart melted. With his free hand, he gently touched her cheek in response.
Ayla hugged his arm tighter.
James had just finished packing when he saw this scene.
He wanted to run headfirst into a wall.
Seriously. He was so jealous it hurt.
Before, he worried his best friend might end up alone forever. Now, James was starting to worry he might never get married himself.
Thankfully, Herman and Will were still single too. Maybe he wouldn’t be completely alone.
The birthday party was planned by Ayla. Everyone there was close to Draven, so she only invited Shawn. But she didn’t expect Shawn to bring Winnie along.
“Mr. Shawn!” Ayla called.
Then she naturally asked about Noah’s head injury.
Shawn instantly sensed danger. He smiled and said. “Hey, beautiful. Long time no see. Don’t worry, Noah healed a long time ago. Recently I introduced him to a really great woman. They’re seeing each other now. They seem to hit it off. Who knows? Maybe they’ll get married.”
