When James heard that, he thought she had a point, so he dropped it. But, he still felt something was up.

“I was going to come find you at the company, but since I ran into you here, can I get your number?”

Ayla didn’t know what James wanted, so she stayed silent.

James thought Ayla was way too cold, barely giving him the time of day. Normally, pretty girls never said no when he asked for their number–he was good–looking and charming, after all.

“Remember that M.L cup I gave you? You had Draven pay me back for it. Ms. Keaton, that’s too much. I’ll return the money to you. If you don’t want to owe me, just get me a gift.”

Ayla was getting annoyed with James. She smiled. “Mr. Reagen, your imagination is impressive, but it really wasn’t from me.”

This time, she didn’t wait for him to say anything else; she just left.

James stared at the closed door, his mouth twitching. He picked up the Polaris cup, flipped it over, and saw the word “Polaris” on the bottom.

Then he put it back on the shelf.

He had a feeling he was right, but Ayla’s face gave nothing away.

She was calm, like an old fox.

James couldn’t keep it to himself and called Draven.

Draven said, “What’s up?”

Even over the phone, James felt a chill. “The Polaris cup wasn’t from Ayla?”

Draven frowned. “Are you at my place?”

James gloated. “Not just at your place–I ran into Ayla and asked if you guys were living together.”

Draven was silent for two seconds and hung up.

James was baffled. He called back, but the line was busy.

James had flown to Trensea today for the House of Myur charity gala tomorrow night. Instead of staying in a hotel, he planned to crash at Draven’s place.

On the couch, he called the regional manager of his favorite luxury brand and asked them to send a few suits he’d picked from the official website for fitting.

James opened the door cautiously. Three stern–faced security guards stood there, like they’d caught a thief. “The owner called. He wants you to leave immediately.”

James was shocked.

Damn you, Draven.

He smiled and cooperated with the security guards.

After the door closed, the guards kept staring, making sure he didn’t try to sneak back in.

James said, “Let me try just once.”

He tapped six “l“s. A mechanical sound said the unlock failed.

James cursed Draven silently but stayed calm. He gave the guards a charming smile. “Let’s go.”

Laura got home and saw a message that Troy would be back for dinner. She’d spent the whole afternoon waiting for Ayla, but she never showed up.

So Laura had to cook dinner again.
