Chapter 58 James Apologized
She planned to walk three more laps before going home.
Just as she was about to pass them, Draven, surprisingly, stopped her.
Ayla stopped, surprised. “Mr. Storm.”
Draven didn’t say anything, just stared coldly at James.
James picked up on the death glare and let out a sigh.

Then, he walked up to Ayla and said seriously, “Ayla, I was out of line yesterday. I shouldn’t have joked around or spread rumors about you and Draven. I was wrong. I won’t do it again. I hope you’re not mad.”
Ayla was taken aback.
It was rare to see James acting so normal.
But he was probably pressured by Draven into this apology; he wouldn’t apologize otherwise.
Ayla had faced too much disrespect back at the Winston Estate and heard worse, so James‘ joke didn’t bother her at all. He didn’t need to apologize.
Still, he said it sincerely.
Ayla couldn’t help glancing at Draven.
He was as aloof and cold as ever, with an unapproachable vibe.
But he wasn’t a bad
guy.
Ayla accepted James‘ apology.
James finally breathed a sigh of relief, then couldn’t resist rambling again, “Ayla, you’re so nice! If you hadn’t forgiven me, Draven would’ve beaten me up!
“Draven crushed me in tennis just to make me apologize. You know what that means? It means he cares about your feelings!
“Most guys these days have no class. Someone as considerate as Draven is rare. So, you also think of him as a good guy, right?”
Ayla was at a loss for words.

Before she could respond, Draven placed his hand on the back of James’s neck. His long fingers curled slightly, and with a push that seemed effortless, James stumbled forward.
Even at 6’1“, James looked helpless in front of Draven.
Draven stared at him. “One more word, and get out.”
His tone was flat and emotionless, yet somehow terrifying.
James slumped.
He pressed his hands together and said sorry to Ayla.
Ayla had nothing to say to James. She looked at Draven. “Have a good day, Mr. Storm.”
Then, she continued with her walk.
Once she left, James regained his courage and slung an arm over Draven’s shoulder. “See that? Ayla acts like a robot around you–no warmth at all. Do you think she might be a little annoyed with
you, Mr. Storm?”
Draven made him look bad in front of Ayla, so when James mocked him, his teeth were clenched.
“Go away.”
Draven pulled his hand away and walked ahead.
James said nothing.
He’d heard that Troy wasn’t interested in Ayla and was actually dating some girl named Skyla something. He couldn’t remember her full name.
Ayla was jogging in Westhaven. Troy didn’t live here. If he did, Draven would’ve moved out overnight.
That confirmed they were living apart. Divorce couldn’t be far off. So there was a chance for Ayla and Draven!
James was pushing this because he really thought they were a good match. He was also on a mission from Draven’s mom–to get Draven to date, even if he didn’t want to marry.
In his mom’s eyes, he was a hopeless case.
Draven had been alone all these years, never in any serious relationship.

He was too smart. Dating was just a boring, time–wasting game to him; he had no interest in it.
James worried that even after he became a dad, Draven would still be single. As a friend, he couldn’t let that happen. So, he had to encourage him.
But he couldn’t rush it, or he’d risk losing his friend.
Since getting married, Ayla had never attended a major event.
Halle wanted to send a makeup artist over, but Ayla refused. She could copy a simple, clean makeup look just by watching makeup tutorials online.
“Oh right, you also learned to paint.”
Halle remembered Ayla mentioning it was her mom who made her learn.
Not just painting, she had other talents too, even some advanced crafts.
Ayla was so impressive because her mom had carefully raised her, and they were really close. That’s why Ayla took it so hard when her mother jumped into the river.
“Did your business deals get affected?” Ayla called to check.
“Troy moved fast. Several deals I was about to sign fell through,” Halle said through gritted teeth.
“Once I make it big, I’m never working with those companies again!”
Ayla’s expression turned cold. “I’m partly to blame for this. We stick to the plan tonight.”
