Divorce and Freedom No More Homemaker for Him novel Chapter 582

Chapter 582 Still Not Chosen

During that time, Ayla and Halle had received a message from Winnie.

I broke up with Mr. Shawn. He didn’t look like he was going to let me go and even wanted me to be his side piece. Disgusting. No way I’d ever do that. I just wanted to let you know I’m safe. I won’t be contacting you anymore, so Mr. Shawn won’t be able to trace me through you.”

Some time later, Ayla saw entertainment news from Aqualith.

The gossip was about someone she knew, and Ayla could barely stand to look.

There was also news about Shawn’s upcoming marriage alliance. For the sake of his family and his own position, he was bound to marry someone suitable. Winnie breaking up with him early was probably a good thing. At least she would not get dragged into a bigger mess.

As for what exactly had happened, Ayla planned to grab Halle and properly gossip with Winnie once everything was over.

Ayla stayed busy with work, and before she knew it, New Year’s Day arrived.

No matter how busy things got, the new year still had to be celebrated.

Trensea was already freezing. Everyone had put on down jackets, though the first snowfall still had not

come.

Ayla spent the noon with Juliet.

In the evening, she went home to spend it with Draven.

That morning, they had gone together to Anwell Premium Senior Care Center to visit Lillian. Ever since the last time she had insisted on seeing Juliana, her condition had improved a lot. She stopped bringing it up and returned to being a little old lady who forgot everything and spent her days knitting.

After visiting Lillian, they went out for lunch.

There were four of them at the table: Juliet, Ayla, Kaleb, and Willette Walker.

Willette was Juliet’s daughter and Ayla and Kaleb’s cousin. She was still a high school art student, carrying that cold, rebellious vibe typical of her age. Her hoodie was pulled over her head, headphones on, her face full of indifference like she hated the entire world and did not care about anyone. Juliet had probably gone through a lot just to get her to show up for this family gathering.

Stop pulling that face. You don’t even know how to greet people?Juliet snapped.

Willette showed zero emotion. Kaleb. Ayla,

She sounded like a robot.

Juliet was so angry her head nearly spun.

Ayla and Kaleb were not exactly obedient types themselves, so they did not take it personally.

Finished

Once the food arrived, they quietly focused on cating. It was supposed to be a reunion, but it felt more like a formality.

That was what family was like sometimes. There were unresolved knots and tensions between Ayla and Juliet, but with time, even deep resentment faded into something small and dull. Like now, they could still sit at the same table and keep the peace.

But there was a small interruption that day.

Just as they were finishing up, Juliet received a call from Skyla. She said she was right outside the private room and wanted to see Ayla.

When Willette heard Skyla’s name, she snorted coldly. She treated everyone the same.

If a dog passed by, she probably would have kicked it too.

Ayla had nothing to say to Skyla, but since Skyla was already there, refusing to see her would only make it look like she was avoiding her, or treating her differently, as if Skyla mattered more than she actually did.

Ayla put down her fork and stepped outside.

She had not seen Skyla since Martin’s birthday party.

The restaurant courtyard had seating, and it was cold outdoors, so it was not a place to linger. Still, it was suitable for a short conversation.

Ayla wore a long black coat, buttoned all the way up to her neck. Her hands were tucked into her pockets, revealing only her pale, delicate face. The cold wind stirred her hair, occasionally brushing against her cheeks. Her gaze was calm and still, like undisturbed water.

If Ayla had been a man, steady, distant, and cold would have fit her just as well.

It had not even been that long since they last met, yet she already seemed different again.

I heard Harper is working as your assistant?Skyla asked, staring at Ayla with her brows tightly drawn.

Yes. Halle and I recruited her from overseas. I heard she was your junior,Ayla said.

Skyla clenched her hand. Plenty of people went abroad for PhDs, graduating class after class, but Harper Nicholls was the professor’s prized student. The professor had personally mentored her for a while. And now she was willing to be Ayla’s assistant. What kind of ability did Ayla have to win over someone as proud as Harper?
