Ayla didn’t look away from Troy. She saw the sincerity in his eyes, but also knew that she would never get involved with this man ever again. Troy was no longer someone important to her, so she was able to let it all go.
“Okay, I accept your apology,” Ayla said with a smile.
Tears slid down Troy’s face.
“Once you’re better, you can see the kids. They’re your children, after all.”
After saying that, Ayla turned toward the man who was watching her in the crowd. Her smile widened.
Troy noticed it and his face drained of all colour, as if he was in severe pain.
“Goodbye,” Ayla said to Troy, still smiling, before she turned away and walked toward the man in the crowd.
Troy watched as Ayla walked further and further away from him.
He watched as Ayla walked up to Draven. Not wanting to make Draven jealous, she draped her arms over his shoulders, stood on tiptoe, and kissed him in front of everyone.
Troy finally understood.
He had lost the love of his life.
Forever.
When Ayla presented her Al model at the global AI tech conference, Kaleb had been there as well to support his sister.
The celebration party had ended close to one in the morning. Kaleb had only stopped worrying after watching Draven drive Ayla back to the hotel. Immediately after that, he’d headed straight for the airport.
While he was on the way, he received a message from Ayla, “Let me know once you land.”
Kaleb frowned. He was already 22. He didn’t understand why his sister was fussing over him like he was three.
Kaleb didn’t send her a reply.
Just before boarding, his phone rang. It was a call from Draven.
Kaleb’s frown deepened. After a moment’s hesitation, he answered the call.
He didn’t say anything as he put the call through.

Draven got straight to the point. “Your sister sent you a message. If you don’t reply, she’ll be worried about you.”
Kaleb scoffed, “My sister and I grew up together. How we get along is none of your business.”
“If you don’t reply to your sister’s messages, I’ll call you. So, do you prefer talking to your sister or me?” Draven never got angry with Kaleb, but his voice had a calm authority that was always able to put Kaleb in his place.
Kaleb’s expression turned dark, and without saying anything, he hung up the call.
He was just about to board the long–haul flight to Eldoria for a business trip. Before boarding, he quickly sent a reply to Ayla.
“Got it.”
He couldn’t help but follow up with another message, “Can you stop telling Draven everything about us?”
He was already upset that another man had taken his sister from him.
Now, Ayla had even made things worse. That just made Kaleb even more upset.
Am I your family, or is he? Kaleb couldn’t help wondering.
Very quickly, his phone lit up with a new message.
It was a message from Ayla, “Tell him what? I didn’t tell Draven anything.”
Kaleb was speechless.
Ayla sent another message, “What did he say to you?”
Kaleb replied, “Nothing. I’ll just text you when I land.”
He added, “Also, stop treating me like a kid.”
Ayla replied, “As if I can be bothered with you.”
Kaleb closed his phone, but just before boarding, he took a look at his messages again, and under the black mask he had on, a faint smile flitted across his lips.
He turned off his phone, pulled up his black hoodie, and walked down the aerobridge, one hand holding his small suitcase, the other stuffed into his pocket.
Between the ages of 21 and 22, Kaleb had grown another inch, from six–foot–one to his present height of six–foot–two. On top of that, with his boxing training, his shoulders were no longer narrow–they were broad and well–built.
He was dressed all in black, with only a pair of icy eyes visible and a few strands of black hair peeking out from under his cap.
Kaleb shared the same cool, detached eyes as Ayla, but his masculine bone structure made his
