Chapter 783 At the Peak of It All

Kaleb wanted to try something he’d never done in his 23 years, at the very peak of his life.
Bria was out with friends today. She was drinking in a private room, no outsiders, just Andrew and Renee. Everyone was relaxed, chatting about recent investments, then drifting into personal topics.
Andrew glanced at Bria. “So how’s it going with Kaleb? It’s been almost two months.”
Renee knew about it. Kaleb was Ayla’s younger brother, so she’d paid a bit more attention than before, but she hadn’t thought much of it. Now that it had been two months with no real movement, she didn’t think Bria had that kind of patience. It was about time to make a move.
Bria hadn’t told them she was planning to get together with him yet, but the outcome was the same, so she said casually, “Why the rush? You know Kaleb’s not like those pretty boys from before. He’s not easy to fool. If I don’t put in more effort and play it slow with him, how’s he supposed to believe me?”
Andrew thought she was making excuses. “Two months is already plenty. When you tricked that naive little Shirley, it took you what, two days? She still hasn’t figured out you were just using her as a tool. How can someone be that slow?”
Bria took a sip of her drink. “That’s because I treated her too well. I was better to her than her own family. If she didn’t treat me well in return, do you think I’d bother keeping her around for fun?”
Andrew thought about it. “But you treated her that well, threw so many resources at her. When you lose interest one day and stop playing along, do you think Shirley can handle it? The drop’s gonna be brutal.”
Bria kept drinking. “That’s not my problem. If she got benefits out of it, she should be satisfied. I never asked her to worship me. And now I’m supposed to worry about her feelings? Is she that important? What, do you think I’m running a charity?”
Andrew shrugged. “Fair enough. Shirley’s already lucky.”
Renee added, “Shirley’s pretty strong–willed. She’s good at comforting herself. Even if things fade over time, she won’t fall apart that easily.”
Andrew scoffed. “Really? She looks like she’d shatter with one squeeze.”
Bria raised an eyebrow. “I agree with Renee. Shirley’s not that fragile. That’s why I keep her around as my little pet. If she cried over everything, it’d be exhausting.”
Andrew
got teased by both of them and didn’t want to stay on that topic. “So what about Kaleb?

If he finds out you’ve been playing him, lying to him, how do you think he’ll react? He’s the complete opposite of Shirley.”
Bria thought for a moment, then said dismissively, “The stronger his reaction, the better. The more it hurts, the better. Ideally, he stays miserable over me for a long time. Otherwise, all this effort, putting up with the disgust of being around him, would’ve been for nothing.”
Andrew shook his head. “Gotta hand it to you, you really stick to your original goal. If it were me, after easing things up with him for this long, I probably wouldn’t even care anymore.”
Bria said, “That’s different. He has to pay for all the humiliation I suffered. He’s pretty simple when it comes to relationships. That makes him perfect for messing with his feelings. It’s the best way I can think of to hurt him. Good thing I can act and managed to fool him. Honestly, I could probably be an actress.”
Renee nodded. “Agreed. Kaleb’s not easy to fool.”
Bria said, “I’m not done yet. I’m going to date him for a while, then dump him in the most humiliating way possible. Make him question himself, haha.”
Andrew laughed. “Damn, that’s a big sacrifice. You’re actually going to date him? Bria, I almost feel bad for you.”
Bria’s liking of Kaleb was real, but so were these cold, heartless words.
That intense feeling she’d had during the movie a month ago had already faded. Even though she hadn’t completely lost interest, she’d had enough time to think things through.
What made Kaleb special was only that her interest in him lasted a little longer. Other than that, he was no different from the pretty boy celebrities she’d fancied before.
Just someone to have fun with.
Messing with Kaleb itself was already entertaining for her.
She wasn’t going to treat him as anything special.
Bria didn’t believe in love. Even if her heart stirred, she wouldn’t take it too seriously. Once she was done with Kaleb, she’d just go back to living her life.
Without the slightest guilt, Bria said, “Come on, for all the effort I’ve put into this, have a drink with me.”
The three of them drank together.
Andrew said, “Didn’t you say you wanted to ask Kaleb out today? He didn’t reply?”
