Divorce and Freedom: No More Homemaker for Him
Chapter 886 James to the Rescue
James frowned and glanced at Halle’s expression.
In all the time he had known her, he had never seen her this furious.
And every bit of that emotion was because of Edgar.
On that point, James had lost.
It was absurd to feel jealous in a moment this ridiculous, but he did. And he hated it.
The corner of James’s mouth lifted. He slid an arm around Halle’s waist and pulled her against him, then turned a provocative look on that idiot Edgar. “With my looks, my background, and my overall excellence, it’s not exactly hard to understand why she’d like me, is it?”
James didn’t bother hiding his contempt. “Your fiancée doesn’t want to marry you anymore, and instead of looking at yourself, you pick her apart and dump every bit of blame on the woman. No accountability. No backbone. What kind of man does that? I shouldn’t have to spell this out for you. Your lack of ability and responsibility is exactly why you lost Halle.”
James added, “Edgar, you don’t deserve Halle. Halle should be with someone better-someone genuinely
outstanding. At the bare minimum, that man should be truly happy when he sees her working hard and rising higher. He should want to celebrate her.
Those last words made it clear that everyone outside had heard Edgar and Halle’s argument.
Edgar had only dared say those thoughts to Halle, and even then, to make
t of him had been trying
himself look pitiful.
But James and the others had heard everything.
That struck Edgar like a blow.
If they hadn’t heard, he could still pretend he had some ground left to stand on.
But once his weakness had been laid bare in front of the enemy, every weapon he had vanished.
Humiliation hollowed him out. He was so thoroughly shamed that his mind went blank and he couldn’t find a single thing to say.
He had never been this humiliated in his life.
In that moment, Edgar looked.
ake a beaten dog,
ing from head to toe.
Tyler stood just outside the door, his face shifting from livid to pale. Whatever dignity he had as an elder had been dragged through the dirt.
He was so angry he couldn’t even speak.
James had known from the start that Edgar wasn’t a real threat. But face-to-face, Edgar was even more pathetic than he had imagined.

Chapter 886 James to the Rescue
Edgar had already lost to himself.
There was nothing left to say.
Because there was no point.
The winner was obvious.
James kept an arm around Halle’s shoulders and led her out of the room. Tyler stood at the doorway. Hayley hadn’t followed them over. Farther away, Nina stood with her little girl in her arms.
James glanced back at Halle. Seeing that she seemed steady enough, he finally relaxed a little.
Halle might still have feelings for the Bowmans, James didn’t.
So, he didn’t show Tyler any respect at all. He even let the full arrogance of a top Zheron heir show. “Mr. Bowman, your parenting is a disaster. Like father, like son-failures in different fonts. Do yourself a favor and stop bothering Halle; she is far out of your league, and frankly, being associated with people like you s beneath her.”
James and the Bowmans were not on the same level.
Most of the time, James was easygoing, so the arrogance didn’t show.
But when he truly leaned into his stature, his old-money pedigree was undeniable. You could feel the social divide instantly; it was a cold, hard reminder that they lived in entirely different worlds.
James didn’t care how Tyler felt. After saying his piece, he took Halle and left.
Nina stood not far away, holding her daughter.
They would have to pass each other.
But Nina wasn’t important enough for James to spare even a glance.
Halle, however, mattered. So, James shifted slightly, blocking Halle’s line of sight to Nina.
And just like that, they left.
There was never even a direct confrontation.
For one complicated second, Nina could feel the cold, effortless nobility of the man who had appeared out of nowhere. He belonged to a higher class, and Halle could reach someone like him. Nina envied that. She resented it, too.
At the same time, with Halle’s current status and ability, meeting someone better seemed perfectly natural. Then, Nina felt a bleak little twist of self-pity. She had fought desperately for the title of Mrs. Bowman,
while Halle didn’t want it and didn’t care.
