The thought that her babies' arrival meant her father's departure brought fresh tears to Maeve's eyes.
She rarely cried in the past.
But ever since she got pregnant, her emotions had become incredibly fragile.
Andres gently wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes and pulled her into a tender embrace.
"Don't cry. He is the last person in this world who would want to see you sad."
Maeve leaned exhaustedly against his shoulder. "Will he come back?"
Andres coaxed her softly, "He will. He definitely will."
They leaned against each other in silence.
Then, as if suddenly remembering something, Maeve shoved him away.
Caught completely off guard, Andres was almost pushed off the bed.
He looked at her in sheer confusion. "Who upset you this time?"
The memory forced into her mind after the hypnosis flared up, filling her with a suffocating wave of anger.
"You don't know who upset me?"
"No wonder you and Nancy have such deep ties in this life. Turns out you were husband and wife in your past life."
"Get the hell out. Disappear from my sight right this instant."
"Looking at your face just reminds me of that cheating bastard."
It was strange, too. If Andres and Charlie were the same person, why did King Kaelan from her hypnotized memories only share Andres's face?
Andres had never felt so wronged in his entire life.
"Even if the events of the past life left a shadow on you, the one with the memories is Charlie, not me."
Maeve retorted righteously, "I don't know if he had memories or not. I only know he didn't look like King Kaelan."
Andres stared at her. "So this is all my fault?"
Charlie was truly insidious. Fearing Maeve would hate him later, he actually changed his face and left this entire mess for Andres to clean up.
Maeve replied without missing a beat, "Exactly!"
"Baby, whether in the past life or this one, my wife has only ever been you, from beginning to end."
Maeve's tone was sharp. "Then what the hell is Nancy?"
Andres didn't hesitate for a single second.
"She's absolutely nothing."
Maeve interrogated him, "If she's nothing, why didn't you let me rip her heart out?"
Recalling the chaotic events at the birthday party, a layer of cold sweat broke out on Andres's back.
"Thank God I stopped you then, or I would have blamed myself for the rest of my life."
Whether Nancy lived or died didn't matter, but if it ended up altering Maeve's fate, the consequences would have been catastrophic.
"Oh, so ripping her heart out would make you feel guilty..."
Maeve was about to continue her unreasonable tirade when Andres scooped her up into his arms.
"You little spitfire, you really just love bullying me, don't you? Alright, alright, calm down. Let's go downstairs and get you something to eat. You'll need your strength to keep bullying me."
