Yet Ayla had held onto that divorce agreement and continued loving him for three whole years.
Their child was gone. And while she was suffering alone, he had been with another woman. In the end, he was the one who drove her away.
At that moment, Troy wanted nothing more than to slap himself.
Seeing him silently staring at the document, Ayla slowly stood up and gripped the handle of her suitcase. "Let's meet at the courthouse in a month. Once the waiting period is over, we can finalize the divorce."
With that, she turned and walked away.
Ayla knew Troy had probably wanted a divorce for a long time. But even after making the decision herself, taking that final step still hurt.
Forgetting someone took time. She planned to spend the next month letting go of the past completely and learning to move forward.
But before she had taken more than a few steps, a hand suddenly covered her hand on the suitcase handle.
She turned around in confusion. "What now? Are you going to humiliate me again?"
At such close range, she could smell the perfume lingering on him. It made her want to throw up.
Troy looked at her quietly. It had been so long since he'd seen the Ayla who was still his wife. Even hearing her speak felt strangely precious, even though her heart had already begun to grow cold toward him.
Still... it wasn't too late. As long as there was still a chance, he would never let her leave.
"It's late," Troy said softly. "You just had surgery. If you want to leave, do it tomorrow."
Her heart sank even further. "No need."
Suddenly, Troy called out, "Laura."
The housekeeper immediately appeared. She knew the couple often talked about divorce and had long since stopped taking it seriously. Truthfully, she had never thought much of Ayla either.
Troy asked, "Is there any chicken soup left in the kitchen?"
Laura went to check before returning. "There is. Mrs. Winston made it for you."
Before Ayla could react, Troy wrapped an arm around her waist. Holding her again felt unreal. This woman had always been his wife. In his previous life, he had lost the right to hold her. Now, fate had given him another chance.
Troy had always liked her cool, distant beauty. The difference was that he had never admitted it to himself. Now he wanted to look at her properly.
Lowering his voice, he asked, "Why did you make chicken soup for me?"
His chest tightened painfully. "I don't want a divorce."
Ayla froze. Confusion filled her face. "You don't want one? Didn't you prepare the divorce agreement long ago?"
Troy's throat tightened. "I'll explain one day why I did that. But, Ayla... I'm not divorcing you."
The moment he finished speaking, he tore the divorce agreement in half. Then, as if afraid that wasn't enough, he set the papers on fire. Even after they burned to ashes, he stepped on them several times.
Ayla watched the entire scene. Not a trace of emotion crossed her face. Instead, she asked coldly, "Are you planning to find some other way to humiliate me?"
Troy's heart ached. The guarded look in her eyes wasn't born overnight. It came from countless disappointments, wounds, and years of being hurt by his indifference.
He knew she wouldn't trust him so easily. He had countless things he wanted to tell her. But he also knew she wouldn't listen right now. There was no shortcut. He would have to earn her trust little by little.
Troy asked Laura to bring over the chicken soup. Then he carefully guided Ayla to the dining table. Only after she sat down did he take the seat beside her. He picked up the bowl and took a sip.
The familiar taste filled his mouth. Instantly, his eyes burned. His jaw tightened.
He had replayed that night in his mind countless times. He wondered how Ayla had found the strength to wait for him after losing their child and even made him chicken soup.

The story was very good, then the author suddenly went crazy and decided to give the demented Troy a chance! I will not read any of your works in the future, and I will not finish the novel. I am done with you and your nonsense....
