Ayla said, “I’m still enjoying it. What you did was savage. I didn’t even know it could be done like that. Troy’s going to completely blow up.”
She didn’t say the question lingering in her chest.
Her intention was to use Draven. If Draven was willing to cooperate, she could go to bed smiling.
As for why he held her hand, there was no need to ask.
What mattered was that it worked.
And it stung even more, as men were naturally possessive. Even if they didn’t love you, they couldn’t tolerate seeing you with another man. Troy was exactly that arrogant, pride-driven type.
So the effect was even stronger.
Draven asked, “When you came to me, you never considered doing this?”
Ayla replied, “I did. I just didn’t dare expect it. I thought you wouldn’t go this far for me.”
Truthfully, she really hadn’t imagined he would.
“Why assume I wouldn’t?”
Ayla was speechless.
The stoplight turned red. The car halted. With one hand on the wheel, Draven turned his head. His eyes were blank, unreadable, fixed on her. “You thought I was too decent to cross that kind of line?”
Not just decent; he seemed distant. Cold in every bone. Reserved, noble, and disciplined. No chance he’d help his ‘ex-brother’s wife’ pull something like this. 1
Draven asked, “Is that what you thought?”
Ayla had no choice but to nod.
Draven let out a short, derisive breath. “I’m not a good man.”
The words slipped out before she realized. “So how bad can you get?”
Silence settled thick in the car. Everything outside felt muted. His gaze turned dark and heavy, and Ayla’s heartbeat jumped. His eyes felt like a trap closing around her, nowhere to escape.
But the next moment, the car moved again. Draven looked ahead, hands calm on the wheel, guiding them back into the flow of traffic.
That spark in his eyes? Maybe she imagined it.

After a while, Ayla heard him say, “Don’t say things like that again.”
Ayla said, “Alright.”

“If you want Troy to feel sick, you need to go all the way. If all you want is me standing behind you, he won’t care. If we’re doing this, we hit where it hurts. Otherwise, it’s pointless.”
Ayla replied, “Understood.”
“I’m not letting you ‘use’ me. We’re partners. Sometimes your opinion won’t lead. I’ll decide what strikes harder.”
Draven was the kind of CEO who commanded people daily. He was never going to play the passive role.
Even if he agreed to be ‘used, he’d still steer things.
Ayla said, “Got it.”
“So be prepared. If needed, I’ll get physical in public.”
Ayla said, “Mm.”
“If that bothers you, forget it.”
Ayla replied, “I know it’s all pretend. I won’t fall for you. This is exactly what I wanted. And you being this cooperative? I’m thrilled.”
Draven was speechless.
“Mr. Storm, you’re a good person. I’m genuinely thankful for your help.”
Her tone was earnest.
She complimented him like he was some virtuous hero.
Draven didn’t know what to say.
Two seconds later, he said casually, “Grandpa is returning this Saturday.”
Ayla had already spoken with Lincoln. Martin planned to stay around ten days.
He was spending time with old friends in Harbor City. She didn’t want to spoil his mood with complaints about Troy. She planned to wait until he came back in good spirits, then talk.
She didn’t expect him to return a week earlier.
Draven said, “You can lodge your complaint.”
Ayla said, “We think alike, Mr. Storm.”
He made a turn and shot her a sideways glance, catching the smile on her lips.

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
