Ayla forced her attention back to the rich mushroom soup simmering in the pot. A second later, she glanced over her shoulder again.
Tonight’s dinner felt important. Draven was dressed formally-tall, sharp, polished, carrying the kind of quiet authority that drew attention, yet his demeanor remained distant, cool, touched with a quiet. loneliness.
Still, the moment had a certain atmosphere.
Soon, Draven placed the large tree-shaped glass back onto the display shelf, then walked to the white marble dining table, pulled out a chair, and sat.
Spread across the table were the materials Ayla needed for her paper-notes, drafts she no longer needed. None of it was essential, so she left everything here instead of hauling it to the study.
Draven picked up an A4 page of her notes and read with full attention.
Those notes weren’t central to her paper. It didn’t matter if he saw them.
By the time the late-night meal was ready, Draven was still seated, studying her notes with the same focused expression.
Ayla cleared a space.
She put down a trivet and brought the pot of mushroom soup over.
Only then did Draven go to the kitchen, wash his hands, and return to sit across from her.
Ayla said, “Mr. Storm, I whipped this together pretty casually. Go easy on it.”
Draven lifted his spoon and ate slowly.
His expression revealed nothing, which probably meant it suited his taste.
Ayla didn’t start eating right away. She grabbed a bandage and wrapped it around her index finger.
Draven noticed. “What happened?”
“Cut myself slicing vegetables. It’s fine.” Ayla had made breakfast for Troy plenty of times. She’d had worse.
She was used to it.
Draven’s brows drew together, just barely. “You cook often?”
Ayla said, “Not anymore. I have lunch at the company. At night, I can just eat at the cafeteria or grab something at the mall.”
Draven said, “No need to do this regularly. It’s a waste of time.”
“Right. Tonight is just to thank you,” Ayla said. “If I want homemade dishes later, I’ll just hire someone.”

Draven didn’t reply.
Ayla asked, “Mr. Storm, what do you think?”
Draven said, “The based is store-bought. Hard to call it good or bad.”
Ayla said, “It’s … not that bad, right?”
Draven said, “What do you think?”
“Uh, then it’s not that bad. If it were awful, you’d have turned around and gone
Draven said, “You talk too much.”
Ayla was speechless.

She hadn’t eaten all night and was starving, but maybe the day had been too much-her appetite was dull. After a few bites, she put down her fork. Her eyes drifted to her notes, and she picked them up, scanning through them, quickly absorbed.
She heard Draven speak, but the words didn’t register at first.
“Mr. Storm, what did you say?”
“You’ve got a solid grasp of your field. Planning to remain my secretary forever?”
“No, no. Once my paper gets published, I’ll see what comes next.”
Draven said, “Kaleb mentioned your brother. Can you clean up his mess?”
“Of course,” Ayla said. “It’s not that serious. I can handle it.”
Her most powerful asset was her tech.
Draven studied her with an unreadable expression, then set down his fork.
“Mr. Storm, you done?”
Draven nodded.

“Alright, I’ll take you home, maybe walk you to the door myself.” Since Draven had been willing to disgust Troy with her, Ayla felt surprisingly good. She warmed up to him a little more.
After Draven left, Ayla cleaned the kitchen, then went to the study to code and build models.
Later, washed up and in bed, she checked her phone. Nothing from Troy. No messages from anyone about
him.
Troy was too obsessed with keeping up with
appearances.
Draven had held her hand and walked her out. Troy couldn’t stand that. He’d be livid, but admitting it

would be too humiliating. He wouldn’t say a word.
Ayla smirked.
If he had to swallow his fury alone, then Troy could finally learn what that felt like.
Ayla set her phone down feeling oddly satisfied and closed her

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
