Chapter 107 The Visitor Who Shouldn’t Have Shown Up

Chapter 107 The Visitor Who Shouldn’t Have Shown Up

“You may leave,” Blake said.

Ayla nodded and left.

At Dimensia Labs,

Kaleb asked Emmett, “How much longer before your guy gets here?”

It was almost closing time. Still no one. Was this person messing with him?

“Any minute now.” Emmett was just as anxious. “People with real talent always have quirks. And he works at Professor Payne’s lab. He’s busy. Being late is normal.”

Kaleb’s face went dark.

He had checked with the tech director earlier. The database wasn’t repaired at all.

It was stuck, endlessly rebooting.

Which meant Ayla’s repair model didn’t work.

Kaleb hadn’t expected a miracle, but the failure still made his anxiety spike.

The problem was right in front of him. It had to be solved.

At eight in the evening, the expert finally arrived.

Emmett brought the visitors in, his face stiff.

Kaleb’s expression grew even worse.

Because the ones who walked in were Zane and Skyla.

Zane looked at Kaleb’s beaten-down expression, and after being punched yesterday, his cloudy mood instantly brightened.

He smirked. “Skyla knows tech. I came with her to talk business. And to see your pathetic face. I was hoping for a laugh, but this is even better than expected.”

He stepped aside. “Skyla, sit here.”

Skyla sat gracefully in the lounge area, like she owned the place.

Kaleb’s face was as dark as burnt coal.

He glared at Emmett, wishing he could slap him across the room.

What kind of mess was this?

Zane was garbage, that much was normal.

But Skyla… As if Kaleb didn’t know she was the woman Troy worshiped. She had been trending online for days.

“Emmett, if you want out of this partnership, just say it. Get them out!”

Emmett panicked. “I coordinated with Skyla’s assistant Jessica! I didn’t know it was Skyla!”

Kaleb hissed, “Kick them out right now!”

Skyla cut in. “Only I can solve your company’s problem. Think carefully, Kaleb.”

Skyla hated Kaleb’s eyes. They looked too much like Ayla’s, and that disgusted her.

She came here to help Zane vent his anger. If Kaleb agreed to cooperate, even a small paycheck was still

money.

More importantly, Kaleb would never lift his head in front of Zane again. Skyla would have leverage over him, and from then on, Kaleb wouldn’t even have the right to call Zane a beggar because Kaleb would be even lower.

So it depended on whether Kaleb valued his company more than his pride.

According to Zane, Kaleb cared more about his game than his life. So the choice was obvious.

Zane taunted, “Kaleb, either work with Skyla or go bankrupt. Pick one.”

Ever since he lost his home, Kaleb’s entire world had been his game. Without it, he had nothing, so he fought with everything he had to finish it.

But right now, his thoughts shifted.

He didn’t expect that.

Maybe his world held something besides the game.”

Like his pride.

Like Ayla.

The moment that thought formed, Kaleb wondered if he had lost his mind.

Ayla married Troy. She never had room in her eyes for a brother like him. Maybe he had grossed her out so much she wanted distance. Or maybe her sudden marriage had made him cold toward her.

Kaleb had already decided they’d never speak again. He might as well be an orphan. Anything related to Ayla, he rejected by instinct. Even when Emmett passed along Ayla’s messages, Kaleb ignored them.

He didn’t expect that because of Troy, he and Ayla would suddenly reconnect.
