“Chill. I’m actually more excited for our third anniversary than you are. I’ve got a surprise for you.”
Ayla hung up on Troy, crisp and decisive.
She had never hung up on him first. But now she was fed up and revolted, especially by that bossy tone. She used to let things slide, but now she saw clearly. Was that how a husband should talk to his wife? Absolutely not.
So was it only Bria who had no manners?
Nope. Troy was just as bad-maybe worse.
Ayla stayed quiet after hanging up. Kaleb was about to ask something when her phone lit up again. Blake was calling.
It was about weekend overtime.
Ayla had to go with Draven to Aqualith for a week on business.
That meant once she returned, she could finally file for the divorce certificate with Troy.
The day was getting closer.
Ayla was in a great mood. She hadn’t gotten the divorce certificate yet, but in under a month, she’d leave Troy and the last three years behind for good.
With her mindset flipped, even looking at Troy felt different.
Seeing her so happy put Kaleb in a sour mood. He frowned gloomily. “Troy called, and you’re actually happy about it?”

… I only enjoy it when Troy is having a rough day.”
Why did Kaleb keep misunderstanding her, just like Draven?
Ayla gave him a look. “It’s work.”
Kaleb relaxed a bit, but he still didn’t get it. “You’re that talented, and you’re just working as a secretary? And that makes you happy?”
Emmett looked confused as well. “Ayla, even at a big company, secretaries don’t get paid that

“Do you know any company with a better database than Storm Group?”

All the best tech and data were all there. Ayla had tried applying to Blake multiple times, but only got accepted once.
And she found exactly what she needed.
The company also showed up at tech summits. Since it matched Ayla’s field perfectly, she could tag along and get something out of it.
Small firms didn’t even get a chance to buy tickets.
That was why she hadn’t quit yet.
In tech, working in isolation was the worst. She’d fallen behind for three years, and now she needed to catch up fast.
Even if she left, it would be after her thesis was done.
Kaleb finally relaxed a little and muttered, “I thought some guy had you hooked, and you’d just be his worker bee.”
Ayla didn’t hear it. “What’re you mumbling about?”
“I said… just focus on your work. Don’t get into some cheesy office romance.”
“Don’t underestimate Ayla,” Emmett said. “She’s a legend. She wouldn’t even glance at the office guys.”
That made him think of Troy.
Troy didn’t deserve the title of husband, but he had status and looked better than most actors. At least in those ways, Ayla hadn’t hit the worst luck.
If she’d married some ugly and broke guy, that would’ve been a disaster.
Of course, Emmett was just talking. Ayla would never deal with that kind of guy.
She crumpled a scrap of paper and tossed it at Kaleb. “Chill. I don’t have time for that.”
She was fine staying single forever. If she did date again, it wouldn’t be anytime soon.

Troy had called Ayla, giving her a way out. That was the most he’d conceded.
But she hung up on him.
That had never happened before.

Listening to the beep, Troy froze. He stared at his screen for a moment, then his lips curled into a cold smirk.
Ayla had guts now.
In a month, she’d changed so much from the past three years. That surprised him.
Troy’s expression darkened. He gripped his phone, eyes hard.
Max had told him to call Skyla, but he hadn’t. It was late anyway. If Ayla hadn’t pissed him off, he probably would’ve had Skyla come keep him company.

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
