Something suddenly felt wrong.

Kaleb’s hand tightened around his fork as he stared straight at Ayla. “You just said 300 million?”
Ayla smiled. “Oh, you didn’t get it? I invested 300 million into your company. It arrives
tomorrow.”
Kaleb was dumbfounded.
He swung his gaze to Emmett, sharp enough to cut steel.
Emmett’s confidence from earlier vanished instantly. He hunched down. “Mr. Keaton, take it easy.”
Kaleb held back the urge to launch Emmett into the wall and said through gritted teeth, “Why didn’t you mention this earlier?’
“I tried! I just couldn’t figure out how to bring it up!”
Kaleb turned back to Ayla, irritation clear. “You haven’t worked for three years. Where would you even get that much money? If this is Troy’s alimony, forget it.”
Emmett nearly groaned out loud. Kaleb was too stubborn and couldn’t tolerate even the tiniest flaw.
But honestly, he didn’t know where Ayla got it either, and that scared him a bit.
If it was divorce money, he hoped she’d lie.
Ayla’s tone chilled. “Alimony is something he owed me. I took it because it’s mine. Why does that bother you? Are you upset that I made tens of millions just by being married for three years?”
Kaleb almost answered yes, but he stopped himself.
She had just treated him well. He didn’t want to ruin that.
So, his face just got darker, and he shut up.
Emmett caught the key point. “Wait-Troy only gave you tens of millions? So these hundreds of millions are all yours?”

Kaleb’s eyes snapped back to her.

Ayla didn’t even bother looking at him. “Yeah. My cash. A while back, I created a language- model AI. Big search engines use it. The dividends are where the money came from.”
Halle handled all the business details.
Kaleb and Emmett were completely silent.
Language-model AI had blown up recently, yet Ayla had made one years earlier and got it into major search engines. That meant her product was ridiculously strong.
It was seriously impressive, but she acted like it meant nothing. So it was what geniuses were like-so modest it bordered on ridiculous?
She was the real deal and also Kaleb’s sister. Kaleb and Emmett were too shocked to speak.
Ayla asked, “Why are you two so quiet?”
Emmett suddenly pointed at Kaleb. “How come you didn’t get your sister’s brain power?”
Kaleb’s lip twitched. He grabbed a glass, filled it full, and lifted it seriously for once. “Ayla, here’s a toast to you.”
Ayla blinked, thinking she must be imagining things to see him so solemn.
“Relax. No need to be so formal.”
She lifted her glass and was about to drink.
Kaleb leaned in and tapped his glass right against hers, practically at her face.
Ayla looked at him with a very mixed expression.
Kaleb looked super proud of himself and finished his drink like a champ. “There. I toasted you.”
She took a tiny sip, her lips twitching.
Emmett knocked his glass against Kaleb’s as well.
Ayla started to refill her drink, but Kaleb stopped her hand. “Slow down. You’ll mess up your
stomach.”
She replied, “If you actually care, just admit it.”

“I just don’t feel like dragging you to the hospital. Don’t act like you’re so special.”
Ayla was left speechless.
Emmett muttered, “Wow, could you be any more full of yourself?”

Kaleb figured if Emmett had a genius sister, he would be screaming it from rooftops, and everyone would make fun of him.
Staying chill was the smarter move.
Watching Kaleb pretend to be calm, Emmett cursed that Kaleb never showed his feelings.
Ayla hadn’t expected Kaleb to accept everything so easily.
Not long ago, he was sick and refused to let her visit, and there was no way he’d take her
money.

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
