Luke’s face twisted with anger. Since Draven had stepped in to protect Ayla, Luke was sure the scandal had to be Draven’s doing.
He had planned to take his frustration out on Ayla, maybe even break her finger and have others torment her. But if she was Draven’s future wife, touching her was out of the question.
Basically, his grudge wasn’t going to get resolved tonight.
After dominating the scene for years, Luke finally got tripped up by a woman from Drakoria. Rage thickened in his chest like poison.
Draven shot Shawn a sharp look and tossed him the gun. “Take care of it.”
Shawn caught it, frowning. Draven was a VIP here. He’d personally invited him, which meant Shawn should’ve kept him and everyone with him safe. And now trouble was blowing up right on his yacht.
Draven’s expression was fierce, the tension in the air growing heavier by the second. Two bullets wouldn’t settle that. He needed a complete answer, and Shawn was the one to deliver it.
That was Shawn’s domain. He had to step up.
Shawn was set to lead the Jackmans someday, and Draven was his biggest ally. Without Draven, he had no chance against his ruthless sister. There was no question about dealing with Luke.
“Mini-Size, you ruined my night. Just wait.” Shawn snapped, and his bodyguards grabbed Luke and everyone with him. Then, he ordered a speedboat to kick them off the yacht.
He also commanded that the party continue, but no one was allowed to mention what had just gone down.
Nobody dared cross Shawn. Naturally, everyone followed orders.
But even so, those two shots from Draven left everyone shaken, stunned even.
Ayla’s eyes were locked on Draven’s back, her jaw tight.
Confronted with knives and guns, most people would freeze or panic. But when someone stepped forward at that exact moment, calm and unwavering, the terrified crowd couldn’t help but be drawn to his authority. He did what they couldn’t, and instinctively, they felt compelled

to follow and rely on him.
For a moment, Ayla was stunned and impressed.
Then, she shook it off. Her mind raced.

Draven must’ve seen her talking to Luke at the party. When the scandal hit, he probably guessed it was her. That was why he brought her onto Shawn’s yacht.
Luke, unhinged as ever, followed. Draven likely expected that. And being in Aqualith, he could rely on Shawn’s power.
What should’ve been a simple revenge situation turned into a turf clash Shawn got pulled into. If Luke crossed Shawn, he wasn’t walking away unscathed.
Draven pulled Shawn into it. He was supposed to be Shawn’s honored guest, but Shawn had basically been made a pawn for nothing. And now, he still had to apologize to Draven.
Ayla replayed everything in her head, heart racing.
Her tech? Luke would never find it. Even if he suspected her, he had no proof. He couldn’t touch her.
But she’d been thinking too small.
People without limits didn’t care about evidence. If they didn’t like you, they’d just kill you— no reason needed.
The real danger was deeper, hidden under the surface. Aqualith was full of that.
This week had been a brutal lesson for Ayla.
Shawn finished issuing orders and waved a hand. A server brought two glasses. He handed one to Draven. “My apologies.”
Draven accepted it, took a sip, and then set it down. He grabbed Ayla’s wrist and led her to the lounge.
He sank onto the couch while she stayed standing.
“Take a seat.”
His face was calm, like the chaos earlier hadn’t even happened. Not a single flicker of tension.
Ayla couldn’t stop thinking about how he’d held the gun-steady, sharp as steel.

“I’ll stand for now.”
“All figured out?” Draven’s eyes were heavy, pinning her in place.

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
