Chapter 142 His Shameless Side

Troy said, “Ayla, listen up. I’ll never love you, not in this life. No matter what you throw at me, you’re just kidding yourself.”

Then, he sneered. Even sitting down, he acted superior, looking down at her. There was even a hint of amusement on his face. “Since we’ve got two days before the divorce certificate, let’s spend our anniversary today. We’ll get through it, then I’ll divorce you.

“Because I hate this marriage more than you do!”

A month ago, Ayla would’ve felt crushed hearing Troy’s cold, ruthless words.

Now? She just saw him clearly as a total jerk. She remembered the three years of mental abuse, his indifference, the way he ignored her thoughts and treated her like she didn’t exist.

He’d gotten away with it because she used to love him. Now? Not a chance. His words didn’t sting.

Her eyes were colder than his. “You keep saying you don’t love me, and I just want a clean break. But you want to celebrate our wedding anniversary? Are you crazy?”

Troy couldn’t get over her icy stare.

It had gone from cool to completely cold, and it strangely fit her. Back then, her eyes had been full of love for him, hiding the reserved woman she really was. Her love had been rare.

Now, Troy realized he didn’t know Ayla at all.

She wasn’t just sharper, more aggressive. Inside and out, she was unfamiliar.

Aggression could be venting, but that was pure, honest disgust. Aggression was just one way her disgust showed.

He had never seen such clear revulsion and finality in her eyes.

He went quiet for a few seconds, just staring at her face and her figure.

Finally, he met her gaze. “You put too much stock in anniversaries. Who says spending one together means celebrating the good parts of a marriage? We can flip it. Celebrate the mess we made, then get the divorce certificate and call it a day.”

Ayla hadn’t thought about it that way.

“Still hesitant? Worried Draven next door will see us together and get jealous? Ayla, you live in your own head sometimes. He’d never care about you.”

Ayla was tired of him bringing Draven up.

“Whether he cares or not has nothing to do with you. You’re just the pot calling the kettle black. I’m not like you. I’d only wish you and Skyla a sweet life together.”

Chapter 142 His Shameless Side

Troy was speechless.

Ayla pointed to the door. “Get out.”

His expression went cold. “Funny. I just realized how obedient you used to be.”

Now, she was completely different, and it burned him.

“I’m ashamed of my past,” she said.

“So whatever you want to ‘celebrate’ today, count me out. Monday morning, courthouse. End of story.”

“You’re so eager to cut ties. What if I don’t play along?”

Troy showed his shameless side.

Ayla was ready. She didn’t care if he cooperated or not. Even without the divorce certificate, he was already a closed chapter.

Nothing more.

She’d been thinking that she’d decided to leave him when she signed the divorce papers. So why did she still feel weak around him? Did she still love him? Still expect something? Still fall into old habits?

Later, she realized she cared too much. She had been clinging to tiny warm memories from the past.

Troy was already her enemy, but a few sweet memories had kept her from treating him harshly.

Once he finally crushed the last bit of her old attachment, she was done. Looking at him now felt like looking at a corpse.

Before she shifted her mindset, Ayla had asked Draven to help make Troy squirm. At the time, she didn’t think she could face him alone-she needed backup to stay strong

Draven had been reliable and agreed to help.

But after the airport, everything inside her changed. Strength filled her. Even standing alone in front of Troy, she felt no fear and wouldn’t flinch.

Once her heart got stronger, her perspective shifted.

Troy’s shameless antics couldn’t intimidate her anymore. If anything, they just made him look like a paper tiger-lots of noise, no real bite.
