Chapter 144 You’re Nothing But a Joke to Me

The word “ex-husband” were like a slap in the face to Troy.

Shawn was stunned.

Winnie gasped and covered her mouth in surprise. “Oh my gosh, Ms. Keaton, you’re so young, and yet you’ve already been married?”

Ayla nodded. “It was a mistake I made when I was young and dumb.”

Winnie glanced at Troy. She didn’t know him well, but from his looks, his presence, and those custom- tailored clothes, he was clearly not an ordinary guy.

Falling for a man who had everything going for him when she was young and naïve didn’t seem like such a loss after all. At least he was rich and good-looking. Now that it was over, it was just a wild story from Ayla’s past, not something to be ashamed of.

Winnie said sincerely, “Ms. Keaton, you’ve really had quite a life.”

Shawn, on the other hand, knew Troy was Draven’s half-brother, so he couldn’t accept it as quickly as

Winnie did.

He had actually been thinking of helping Draven win over Ayla, but now that idea was completely out of his head.

Shawn looked at Ayla, then at Troy, then back at Ayla. His respect for her just kept growing.

Shawn loved beautiful women. Ayla was stunning, and he definitely liked and admired her. But if it came to dating, Shawn probably wouldn’t take the risk to date her-she was just too strong-willed to handle.

“So, Ms. Keaton, are you here with your ex-husband to catch up?”

Ayla replied flatly, “There’s nothing to catch up on between us.”

Shawn glanced at Troy. He was starting to get it-Troy was here to win Ayla back. But from the looks of it, he didn’t look like he was trying at all. It seemed more like he was waiting for Ayla to come after him.

You don’t even know what you should do to win her back. No wonder you ended up as her ex-husband.

Shawn tactfully said, “Then we won’t disturb you any longer.”

Ayla knew Shawn would go straight to Draven and spill everything about Troy,

Since Troy had followed her all the way to the hotel, it wasn’t something she could hide. She decided to just let it be.

At this hour, breakfast was basically over-it was more like brunch.

Ayla picked out a bunch of food, found a spot to sit, and treated Troy like he was invisible the whole time.

Troy pulled out the chair across from her and sat down, demanding answers. “What exactly happened last night?”

Troy only had a rough idea of what happened. He wasn’t clear on the details, and he had no clue what Shawn meant about marrying Ayla.

Logically, he knew it wasn’t possible, but he just couldn’t accept it.

Ayla didn’t say a word and just focused on eating.

She refused to say anything, and Troy had no way to make her talk.

Troy himself didn’t really understand why he followed Ayla here in the first place.

But it didn’t matter anymore. He had already flown all the way to Aqualith, and things had spiraled out of control.

After brunch, Ayla had nothing to do for the rest of the day.

Troy didn’t want to leave, and she couldn’t make him. Mostly, Ayla didn’t want to waste the energy avoiding him. She didn’t want it to seem like she couldn’t stand having him around.

If Troy figured that out, he might stick around just to annoy her.

Troy was already a closed chapter in Ayla’s life. Whether he stayed or left, it didn’t affect her at all.

True indifference meant feeling nothing for the other person.

“Are you really planning to stick with me all day?” she asked coldly.

“Anniversary is an all-day thing.”

Ayla let out a cold laugh. “What is it you want to celebrate?”

Troy also laughed, his voice full of mockery. “I want to remember how much you used to love me.”

Ayla sneered, “So you’re really stuck on how good I was to you. In that case, I’ll remember just how cold- hearted you were to me, so that every time I think of you, all I feel is disgust and nothing else.”

Troy had never loved Ayla, so even if she had made up her mind to divorce him, it didn’t change anything for him.

But he didn’t want to hear her cold, mocking words.
