Of course, this was completely James and Halle’s comfort zone.

Ayla didn’t expect anything else that night, but she still got a sweet message from Casey. “Hey, did you get home safe? Congrats on your divorce. Wishing you joy every day.”

Ayla smiled.

Wow, he really knows how to make people feel cared for. He was sweet, charming, and thoughtful.

He was destined to do well in the entertainment world. She truly believed Casey had a bright future.

“I’m home. Thanks.”

Casey replied instantly with a good night emoji and didn’t say anything more.

He stopped exactly where he should. Ayla liked that.

If he kept chatting and she didn’t feel like replying, she’d start worrying about hurting his feelings.

She tapped her forehead. Her heart was way too soft sometimes.

House No. 18, Norton Road.

Halle’s bedroom sat on the third floor of the villa. The room had big vintage cross-pane windows-classic trendy Trensea’s architecture style.

But tonight, the room looked nothing like its usual tidy self.

Men’s and women’s clothes were scattered everywhere. A pair of heels-one at the door, one under the

bed.

The room smelled like perfume, wine, and other things.

Halle’s head throbbed. Her whole body ached, especially her lower back. But what really made it hard to breathe was the man’s hand resting across her chest.

Memory rushed into her mind.

Halle’s eyes flew open. She stared at the ceiling, speechless.

Last night, she had gone to James’s party with a clear goal-connect with him and get closer to Zheron’s network. The party was fun; she drank a lot, but she wasn’t drunk.

When everything wrapped up, because Ayla asked James to take care of her, he felt responsible for getting her home safely.

Halle had been happy about that until they ran into her ex on her doorstep.

They had agreed to a simple three-month relationship. Just for fun. But somehow, her ex suddenly decided he had fallen in love and wanted to continue.

Halle couldn’t stand people who agree to play the game and then suddenly talk about true feelings.

If true feelings were worth something, they wouldn’t have started casually in the first place.

He didn’t understand the rules, and worse, he came back to bother her. Halle hated that.

James, who had seen everything under the sun, spotted the problem instantly. One second he was a gentleman. Next, he slid an arm over her shoulder and gave the guy a cold smirk. “Beat it.”

He was handsome, dangerous, and carried himself with a sharp edge. The ex felt small and walked away like a defeated puppy.

James cashed in the favor and asked if he could come inside for a bit.

Halle didn’t see a reason to say no. She poured him a glass of water, but James quickly spotted her cabinet full of expensive liquor. Her home was stylish, warm, and full of personality. He grew curious, opened one of the good bottles, and the two of them drank and talked for hours.

And then, somehow, the talking moved to the bedroom.

Now Halle stared down at the hand resting across her chest. Last night, this man couldn’t keep his hands off her breasts. And even while sleeping, he still wouldn’t let go.

Who sleeps like this? she thought, completely baffled.

Her mood felt awful.

Yes, she wanted connections in the Zheron, but getting them through a night in bed felt a little too questionable.

She let out a quiet sigh and went back to staring at the ceiling, utterly speechless.

A deep, low voice brushed past her ear. James whispered, “Thinking about how to toss me aside?”

His warm breath hit her skin, and Halle felt a sharp shiver run through her whole body.

She turned her head, and there he was, James propped up on one arm. He showing off a very well-built chest, complete with faint marks from last night.

Her eyes moved up and met his hunter eyes. His gaze was filled with teasing.

His mouth was curved in a smirk, yet somehow he managed to look pitiful, like he was the one who’d been wronged.

Halle was stunned by how shameless he was.

She was about to push him away when James leaned down again and pressed a kiss to her neck.
