Skyla’s voice stayed calm. “People like them aren’t worth our attention anymore.”

“Exactly!” Zane said. Then he frowned. “But seriously, Skyla, I don’t get it. Ayla and Kaleb are both living awful lives now. So why do they still act like they own everything?”

He wanted to see them fall apart-to see defeat, shame, and despair on their faces.

Not that arrogant confidence they had no right to keep.

Zane got furious every time he saw them acting so smug that it made his chest ache.

He thought that even if he ever became the richest man in Trensea, Kaleb and Ayla would still have those same cold, arrogant faces-and that idea alone made his blood boil.

Skyla leaned back and said, “What’s so hard to get? They’re the type who’d rather look proud than admit they’ve failed. The more they act untouchable in public, the more miserable they are in private.”

Zane froze for a second, then everything made sense. His anger faded fast. “Damn, that’s satisfying to hear.”

Ayla parked outside the building and finally noticed Troy’s message.

She was slightly surprised that he had reached out first, especially for Kaleb’s sake.

Troy had never cared about her before. This tiny bit of “concern” he showed now was nothing more than charity-a gesture from someone who thought he was being generous.

When Troy wanted to treat someone well, he did it with precision. Like Zane said, he once bought Skyla a house just so she could get to work easier. He even spent his own time to go look at it with her.

That comparison said everything. Troy had never cared about her. But for another woman, he could act like a real man-thoughtful, attentive, willing to give his time,

He had no right to tell her not to block him.

Still, Ayla hadn’t actually blocked him.

She couldn’t erase him completely, so she chose to live with his presence. It wasn’t unbearable. Because deep down, she knew she would be the one to make him suffer more in the end.

Ayla could not care less about thim.

She hadn’t even put her phone down when it rang again. It was Halle. She answered with a teasing grin. “Hey, genius.”

Ayla paused. “What happened to your voice? You sound hoarse. Are you sick?”

Halle went quiet for a beat, silently adding another mark to the score she planned to settle with James.

“Had too much to drink last night,” Halle said smoothly. “My throat’s just sore.”

Ayla said, “Then take care of yourself.”

Halle replied, “Norris sent the payment. We’re splitting it fifty-fifty.”

Ayla smiled. “Of course. You guys tested for half a month. You earned it.”

She had handled the key technical support, but Halle had taken care of the testing and coordination afterward.

Halle added, “Norris seems really interested in you. He wants to meet up.”

Ayla asked, “Does he need something?”

Halle chuckled. “Not really. He just admires you. You should come see their faces when they realize who you are.”

Ayla understood what she meant. “I don’t waste time on pointless socializing. Turn it down.”

“I already did,” Halle said. “We’ve got talent. We don’t need to meet anyone just because they ask.”

If Norris couldn’t handle being refused, then he wasn’t someone worth dealing with, and Halle wasn’t planning to keep contact with him anyway.

Ayla laughed softly. “I seriously can’t listen to your voice right now. Go get some throat drops.”

Halle groaned. “Fine. See you!”

Halle’s throat ached, all thanks to James. Did I really scream that much? My throat’s gone sore!

She tried to shove the thought away, but every time she closed her eyes, she could still hear James’s low grunts in her ear. It threw off her focus at work.

James might have been bad in bed, but at least he was responsible. Not long after leaving her place, he sent her his medical report.

The report was dated today, which meant he had actually taken the time to visit the clinic for a men’s health exam.

The results showed he was clean. No infection, no risk.

But there was another part of the report-one about his performance. It said everything was in perfect working order, with a high fertility rate and even included the length of his “rise” and “fall.”

Halle rolled her eyes so hard she thought they might get stuck.

James had clearly done it on purpose, shoving the report in her face like a trophy.
