Lisa said, “Ms. Kinsman, you’re overthinking it. The Alvarado Group mostly works with supply chains and international trade-it’s a heavy industry business. We’ve invested in tech before, but results weren’t impressive. Working with you won’t cost us anything we can’t handle.

“And I’m not trying to hurt Rolf on purpose. He can launch his product, just not the best one. I want him to win or lose fairly. It should depend on skill. I’m counting on you two-that’s my bet.”

By now, Ayla had already put her phone down.

Before this, she had the same worries as Halle.

But hearing her words, Lisa didn’t seem like a cold person who would do anything to win. She was warm, human, and fair.

Sure, competition is always tough. Lisa could have made things really hard for Rolf, yet her gentle approach didn’t directly help her personal goals.

But for a partnership?

Ayla and Halle were glad to see it.

A good character is almost a guarantee. If a person isn’t bad at heart, things tend to go smoothly.

Halle asked, “Why not be a little tougher, Ms. Alvarado? With your skills, you could control Rolf’s chances, instead of letting him grow freely and placing your hopes on something uncertain.”

Lisa had never underestimated the two of them. As they talked, she realized they were smart and attentive.

She felt even more confident that she had chosen the right people they were serious and capable.

“We’ve talked about a lot. I don’t need to explain more. I’ll be honest. Rolf isn’t Howard. He’s my biological brother. I can’t crush him completely, but I won’t let him stand in my way either.

“I came to you knowing the risks. Success takes some luck, and sometimes you have to take a risk. I feel if I work with you, I’ll win.”

Lisa was gentle but strong. She was careful, thoughtful, and determined.

She added, “If I make a choice and things don’t go well, I’ll accept it. I take full responsibility for my decisions. If I lose, I’ll accept it. But this is just step one. Everything is just getting started. No matter what happens next, I’ll stay positive. We’ll get through it together.”

Her calm and steady personality really impressed Ayla and Halle. They liked her a lot.

Halle said with a smile, “Ms. Alvarado, I’m hosting dinner tomorrow to treat you properly. It’s on me. Please say yes.”

Lisa knew it was basically settled. She lifted her glass. “Okay.”

Ayla texted Draven the time-they still had plenty of it.

Once the business talk was done, they relaxed.

The conversation turned to life, gossip, and shopping tips.

Ayla learned that Lisa was single and didn’t plan to get married.

Perfect for a power game, she thought.

Ayla quietly wished her luck.

Lisa was pretty busy and soon had to leave. “See you tomorrow, Ms. Kinsman,” she said. Then she asked, “Ayla, are you coming?”

“Depends,” Ayla said.

“Okay.” Lisa took a sip, grabbed her bag, and left.

At the door, she ran into Draven. She greeted him quickly. “Mr. Storm.”

He nodded slightly-polite but distant, untouchable.

He was extremely difficult to approach and almost impossible to talk to. Lisa had never met anyone so closed off. She could tell he didn’t want to chat, so she didn’t push it.

But his showing up here-probably wasn’t by chance, right?

Lisa thought about Ayla.

Ayla and Draven…

Her admiration for Ayla came from instinct, nothing to do with men. She just looked forward to seeing more surprises in the future.

After Lisa left, Ayla told Halle about her thesis.

“Totally, I’ll put together a team to help you, and learn from you too,” Halle said right away.

It would be expensive, but Ayla already had a plan-time to build her career.
