Chapter 304 Payback

Chapter 304 Payback

Halle, completely drunk, didn’t want to talk to him at all.

James sighed. “If only I were drunk too. Then we could sleep together again, and it wouldn’t count as taking advantage of you.”

Halle felt that James was just shameless.

James picked Halle up in his arms and smoothly carried her into the main bedroom. He tucked the blanket over her stomach. He couldn’t bear to leave, so he looked at her tightly furrowed brows. “Are you feeling really bad?”

To his surprise, Halle started crying with her eyes closed.

James was shocked. Halle wasn’t the type who cried easily. Sometimes she was colder than men, like a true queen. Yet after drinking, she was crying like this. It was so cute that James almost laughed.

But he did not feel sorry for her at all. Instead, he took the chance to pinch her cheek. He would never dare do this when she was sober. He teased, “Why are you crying?”

“Because I’m not a man.”

James froze. “What? A man? If you were a man, what would I do?”

He thought for a moment, then stared at her. “Wait, don’t tell me you want me?” James thought to himself, Even if Halle were a man, there is no way I’d be the one on the bottom.

“I’m a woman, so I can’t marry Ayla…” Halle fell deep into her sadness. She sounded truly hopeless.

James’s face darkened. He pinched her cheek hard again and said fiercely, “Halle, just accept your fate.”

Halle was really exhausted. In the next second, she forgot all about that sadness. “I want to sleep. You can go now.”

“You keep frowning,” James said, trying to smooth her furrowed brows, but they remained tight.

Halle moved a little. “Clothes.”

“Why didn’t you say so earlier?” James narrowed his eyes and smiled. “No problem. I can help you take them off.”

“After you help me, pour me a glass of water,” Halle said without opening her eyes. “Then you can leave.”

“You really know how to order people around,” James complained, but still did as told. He helped her change, tucked her in, then poured a glass of water. Only after Halle fell asleep did he plan to leave.

But after thinking about it, he felt unsatisfied. So he lay down beside her instead. That way, he could get some payback in the morning.

After all, James had never taken care of anyone in his life.

Now that he had spent half the night taking care of Halle, he had to get a little payback for himself.

So James shamelessly stayed and slept next to her.

Poor Lemon, meanwhile, slept alone in the night. No one cared for him. No one kept him warm.

When Ayla went home with Draven, she first tried to sit in the front passenger seat. But Draven told her to sleep in the back seat instead. Ayla quietly fell asleep there.

Draven drove even more steadily and slowly than usual.

Half-asleep, Ayla asked, “Draven, are we almost home?”

“Almost there.”

“Okay.”

Draven glanced at Ayla through the rearview mirror and noticed how quietly she slept. When the car entered the underground garage, she slowly opened her eyes and looked at Draven’s handsome face through the mirror.

Draven lifted his eyes, and their gazes met.

“You’re awake?”

Ayla’s usually cool eyes were no longer sharp or cold. They looked gentle now, like soft moonlight.

“Do you think I’m good?” Ayla suddenly asked.

Draven had never had this kind of conversation with her. This question was more suited for close friends. Normally, his talks with Ayla were careful and distant.

“You’re very good.”

“Do you think I’m capable?”

“Yes. Very capable.”

Ayla was not satisfied. “You’re not sincere at all. You’re just brushing me off.”

Draven didn’t know what to say.

Fine.

Ayla hadn’t truly sobered up.

After parking the car properly, Draven got out and opened the back door. He looked at Ayla, who was leaning against the seat and not moving at all. He curved his lips slightly. “Time to get out.”
