James smiled faintly. “I like Halle. I’m pursuing her. So you stay away from her. You didn’t know, so I’ll keep it civil this time. But if you sneak around asking her out again, I’ll have Draven transfer you to Granatia.”

Bang.

The door slammed shut.

Will was unceremoniously kicked out.

His brain stalled for a solid few seconds. By the time he sat alone in his car-lonely, exhausted, and confused-it finally dawned on him.

Damn it. He’d just gotten back from a business trip, dead tired, and somehow still managed to make two social rounds-only to end up at James’ place getting humiliated.

No, wait.

Why did everyone suddenly have a love life-and no one told him?

Melody picked up Herman’s call while she was drinking with Fabiola in a private room.

Fabiola stepped out midway to take a call, and soon after, Polly left as well.

Even though Melody had just been embarrassed by Ayla’s assistant, the thought that Ayla’s “trash entertainment company” would go bankrupt sooner or later put her in a great mood.

She and her brother didn’t get along, so her tone sharpened. “What do you want?”

“Where are you?”

“Having drinks with friends. Why?”

“Send me the address.”

Herman’s voice sounded unusually serious. Melody felt a bad premonition. “Tell me why first. Then, I’ll tell you where I am.”

“Mom wants me to spend more time with you.”

That explanation disarmed her. She sent the address without another thought.

Not long after, Herman arrived.

The moment the door opened, Melody saw the icy, severe look on his face. He didn’t bother with pleasantries. “I’ve already booked you a flight back to Zheron. I’m taking you to the airport now.”

Before she could react, Herman grabbed her wrist and dragged her toward the door.

Melody immediately resisted. She still wanted to stay and watch Ayla embarrass herself. “I’m not going! I have work. I have interviews lined up! What’s wrong with you? Herman, you’re hurting me!”

She struggled so hard that Herman let go.

Melody’s face flushed red with anger. She glared at him. “Have you lost your mind?”

“I warned you countless times-Ayla is not someone you can touch. You really are out of control. You actually went after her, even blocked her in person. You’ve got some nerve,” Herman said, narrowing his eyes.

Melody froze. “She complained to you?”

“Yes. She knew you’re my sister-that’s why she told me ahead of time exactly what you did.”

“That bitch! What right does she have to complain? If she had guts, she’d come fight me herself. Instead, she hides behind you!”

Just mentioning Ayla made Melody feel disgusted. She pinched her nose, then turned her frustration on Herman. “Herman, think about it-what’s your status, what’s hers? Just because she says a few words, you have to listen? I’m your sister. Why are you siding with outsiders?”

Herman asked quietly, “Do you like Draven that much?”

“Yes. I have to have him,” Melody said dreamily. “Herman, wouldn’t it be great if Draven became your brother-in-law?”

Herman had nothing to say. Melody was beyond reasoning. He stopped wasting words and sent a few messages instead.

His expression turned unreadable. Melody couldn’t see through him at all. Her brother was a fox-elegant, refined, flawless on the surface, but calculating to the core.

She grew wary. “You should leave. My friend will be back any minute.”

“Your ‘best friend’ is impressive-willing to be used as a tool for you. You should warn her to be careful. Her company might not survive this,” Herman said as he poured himself a drink.

If Draven truly got angry, collateral damage was inevitable. He might go after Melody’s friend first. As for Melody herself, Draven might spare her out of courtesy to Herman-but once a line was crossed, even Herman might not be able to intervene.

“Of course, she would. She’s closer to me than my own brother. She’s the only one who helps

me.”
