Draven grabbed Ayla’s hand and slid it behind his waist. He pulled her into him and let his hand wander up her back as he murmured low. “Wanna show me how bad you’ve really been?”
Her face was already burning, and now this man had the audacity to flirt like that? She shoved her face against his chest and pinched him hard on the back.
Draven chuckled and held her for a beat longer. “I don’t wanna leave,” he said. “Don’t make me.”
She pressed her face in deeper. After a second, she looked up. “Lean down.”
He leaned without question.
She cupped his face and looked straight at his lips.
Then she stood on her toes and kissed him.
His lips were soft and warm. Every time he kissed her, it felt like she was getting a full-body massage. Her heart kicked up on instinct.
She kissed him again. Their eyes locked, both of them smiling. Then she buried herself back in his chest and listened to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat.
She felt weightless. Floating. Like she could lift off at any second.
She’d never had this feeling with Troy. Not even close.
“I didn’t see this coming today,” Draven said out of nowhere,
Ayla’s ear twitched. “Because I said yes to
that?”
…
He gave a quiet laugh. “No. What’s going through that head of yours?”
She stared up at him. Was he seriously teasing her now?
“I thought you’d just come out and tell me about Melody,” he said. “Or maybe give Herman the heads-up and loop us in later. But instead, you brought out the whole damn crew.”
Draven let her go. His eyes narrowed just slightly. “So why the show?”
Her eyes narrowed too. She met his stare without flinching. “Had to bring out you to hold it down for me.”

“You only pull me out when it’s about Troy,” he said, voice soft. “And only when he’s losing it. You never play the ‘boyfriend card’ otherwise.” His voice dropped lower. “So tell me.”
“You really don’t get me,” she said. “I love using you.”
“You couldn’t use me better than I use you.”
He wasn’t letting go of it. “There’s more, isn’t there? Ayla, I wanna hear it.”
She didn’t want to say it.
But Draven had her boxed in. He knew her too well. Every little shift in her expression, he caught it all.
She tried to dodge, tried to play it cool. That just made him more amused. “I let you look for free. Don’t you think I deserve some interest?”
Her jaw nearly hit the floor. “Did you actually just say that out loud?”
“I don’t like people in my space,” he said. “But you didn’t just look. You touched. Shouldn’t you pay up?”
Ayla started rethinking everything she thought she knew about him.
The moment he got a little closer, he got bolder. The stuff coming out of his mouth? Shameless.
“What’s so hard about saying it?” he added. “If you feel shortchanged, I’ll let you touch me again.”
She gave him a blank stare.
“What makes you think I had
think I had any other reason?”
“I guessed,” he said, eyes locked on hers. “Your vibe gave it away. Looks like I hit the mark.”
Her cheeks were on fire. But the way he kept pressing, she knew he wouldn’t stop till she gave him what he wanted.
She looked away from his eyes and focused on his throat, then his collarbone. “You already guessed it,” she muttered. “Why do I have to spell it out?”
His throat moved as he swallowed. Ayla didn’t think she was good at flirting, but somehow it still came out like that. Draven leaned in, his voice low and deliberate. “Because I wanna hear you say it.”

In a real one, you could actually speak your mind-whether it was love or frustration. You didn’t have to bottle it up and assume the other person wouldn’t care.

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
