Chapter 596 Empty Reality
As a friend, Herman truly felt sorry for Ayla.
Draven said, “I’ve never been afraid of Troy. No matter what he does, I can always find a way to deal with it…”
He let out a sigh. “People really shouldn’t have a weak spot. Once you do, you’re always at a disadvantage.
“Draven, are you really just going to let this end like this?” Herman asked.
Draven answered without hesitation, “No.” His eyes slowly turned cold. “Never.”
Ayla was his weak spot. Because of her, he was always at a disadvantage. But without that weak spot, he wouldn’t be himself anymore.
Right now, the only thing Draven worried about was Ayla. He worried about how she was doing these days. He would rather suffer a hundred times more pain than let Ayla shed even one more tear for him. Just thinking about her made his chest ache. He closed his eyes and said softly, “Drive.”
As the words fell, a single tear slid down from the corner of his eye.
Draven didn’t want to fail Ayla’s love. But he also hoped she wouldn’t care about him so much. He didn’t even need her to love him that deeply, because he would rather take on everything himself just to stay with her.
If you can’t get past it, then does that mean … there’s no future for us?
Even if it really is impossible, Draven still insisted on turning the impossible into a possibility.
Ayla told her coworkers that she had caught a bad cold and wasn’t feeling well. These days, she worked nonstop. If she couldn’t sleep at night, she got up to work. Sometimes she cried while reading complex files.
Work helped block out everything else. Still, Halle complained that Draven seemed like he wanted to break up, since he didn’t even check on Ayla.
Ayla said nothing. She knew Halle had noticed something and was testing her. Halle just didn’t have the heart to say it out loud.
She hadn’t contacted Draven for a whole week. They didn’t block each other, and they shared mutual friends, so they could reach each other anytime.
But Ayla knew the first few days were critical. Once she contacted him and heard his familier voice, all the effort she had put into holding on would collapse, and she would fall right back to the start.
Ayla stood there for a few seconds. Then, as if she had been shocked by electricity, she rushed inside.
She looked everywhere, but everything was gone. The home that once felt full suddenly felt so empty. The past few months felt like a dream. She had prepared a study for Draven. complete with the upgraded security system she installed herself. That was still there. The gifts Draven gave her were still there. The extra health supplements in the kitchen cabinets were still there. Even the unopened art piece was still there.
This wasn’t a dream.
It was just that Draven was gone. Even the air no longer carried his scent.
These days, Ayla had been on the edge of breaking down, holding on with pure willpower. In the past, aside from what happened to Juliana, she could usually survive setbacks after getting through the first week. But this time was different.
She felt dizzy. Once someone had fully entered her life, losing them hurt too much.
Everything had been there when she left. All the memories were still clear. But in the blink of an eye, they were replaced by empty reality. It felt like a hard slap to the face. Like a dream that ended too suddenly, leaving her unable to tell what was real and what was fake.
Ayla couldn’t take it anymore. She ran out like she had gone mad and pounded hard on the door next door. “Draven, open the door! I don’t want you to leave!”

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
