Chapter 61 Provocation
She turned and glared at Renee, taking a sharp step forward, eyes piercing. “You like Ayla?”
Bria had a ton of rules, and one was nobody could say anything nice about Ayla.
Back when Renee guessed that Ayla was a hacker, Bria mocked her for it.
So she knew exactly where Bria’s line was.
She couldn’t cross it.
“It’s not that I like her. It’s just that she seemed a little different from what you said, and I got curious, that’s all.
“Even if I did like her, I’m still your friend. I’ll always be on your side.”
That was Renee’s line too.
Friends are friends.
Feeling some admiration for Ayla was another matter.
Bria sneered. “Great! But let me warn you. If you think Ayla’s that great, we’re done. No more friendship. I’m not joking.”
Ayla had really ticked her off this time.
That’s just Bria—she either likes you or she doesn’t.
If she didn’t like someone, she just didn’t like them, period.
If Ayla wanted to fix things, a simple apology wouldn’t work. She’d have to suck up to Bria for a long time, until Bria’s anger finally faded.
But knowing how Ayla felt about Troy, she’d eventually have to suck up to Bria!
Once Ayla was done with this rebellious phase, Bria would make her pay!
“Okay, Bria, whatever you say!”
Even though Bria was making threats, Renee knew she had successfully calmed the princess down again.
Bria huffed at her, meaning the issue was over.
Then she went back to scanning the fancy banquet hall for Ayla.
And what did she see? The woman who had nearly driven her crazy was just chilling, eating and drinking!
She didn’t care about Bria’s feelings at all.
Bria was furious all over again!
Seeing this, Rence pulled Bria away. “Stop looking. You’re just making yourself angrier.”
“This isn’t over!” Bria ground her teeth, furious.

Bria finished her little speech, chin up, and walked away.
Ayla stayed still in place.
A few seconds later, Will came over and asked, “Are you okay?”
He knew Bria.
Even without hearing what was said, Bria’s expression made it clear she was provoking Ayla.
Ayla must be feeling upset.
Hearing his voice, she turned to look at Will.
She was 5’8″ barefoot, and with her 2-inch heels, she stood at about 5’10”. She was eye-level with him.
But her gaze wasn’t focused.
Ayla wanted to tell Will that Bria was just a spoiled rich girl who let her emotions rule her, was way more emotional than rational. They lived in different worlds.
Whatever Bria said didn’t matter.
But Ayla asked herself, After all of Bria’s taunts, mockery, provocations, and jabs, do I really feel nothing?
Like some saint, completely unaffected?
Ayla inevitably thought of Troy.

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
