Ayla rushed to Zheron overnight. Her laptop sat in the car.
She took it out and turned it on. Her hands moved fast across the keyboard as she traced Bria's phone signal. The phone kept moving quickly, then suddenly stopped. Ayla checked the location where the signal froze. It wasn't a hotel or a bar. It was an empty road with almost no people around.
Clearly, someone had thrown the phone there.
Ayla first told Draven that Bria might be in danger.
Then she broke into the traffic camera system. To make sure no one tracked her, she wrote a program and spent over ten minutes wiping her traces. She left without being noticed by the cyber police and spotted a suspicious car.
While driving, Ayla called Draven and told him Bria was likely kidnapped. Then she sent him the path the car had taken, along with photos of the vehicle that had no license plates.
She got all of that even faster than his team did.
Draven knew Ayla was highly skilled, but every time, the difference still shocked him. The people working under him were all geniuses, too.
She had done everything she needed to do. The rest wasn't her responsibility. In Zheron, Draven handled things better. The capital had strict control everywhere, and the power system there was intense. She understood her limits. Whoever had the strength should take care of it.
Besides, Bria was Draven's own sister. That was his problem to handle.
"Tell me once you get news," Ayla said. "Just let me know she's safe."
"Nothing will happen," Draven replied. Then he hung up and started taking action.
Ayla felt that having someone calm nearby really made a difference. Draven had done things she still didn't fully understand, and he could be forceful. But deep down, he wasn't like Troy at all. Draven and Troy acted differently because their reasons were different. Hearing his words made her feel deeply relieved.
Even though she once disliked Bria and stayed away from her, she had never wished real harm on her.
Ayla pushed that matter aside, entered a new address, and drove away.
There was still one thing she hadn't done in Zheron.
She was going to see her father.
As she drove, memories from long ago kept appearing in her mind. Before she realized it, her face had turned cold.
Then by chance, she ran into her half-sister, Fabiola.
They had only met once or twice before. Ayla knew Fabiola always looked perfect in every detail. But now, she wasn't wearing her usual vintage-style clothes. Instead, she wore black casual clothes from head to toe.
Then she got into a car without license plates and drove off.
Ayla frowned and followed behind.
They kept moving farther away from the city.
Ayla's eyes widened. She stared without blinking.
So Fabiola really was involved!
Bria wasn't knocked out. She was awake. Tape covered her mouth, and her hands were tied behind her back. She couldn't speak or move her hands, and her hair was completely messy. She looked terrible.
But even like that, Bria still carried that proud look. Her eyes showed she was still fighting.
Ayla had thought only Fabiola was involved, but then another person stepped out of the car.
It was Melody.
That made even less sense. The only person who truly had any real grudge with Melody was Ayla herself. Melody should have targeted her. Why go after Bria instead?
Ayla had already sent the location to Draven. Sooner or later, Bria would be rescued. Before he arrived, the only thing Ayla hoped was that Bria wouldn't suffer too much.
But the more she wished for that, the more things went wrong.
In the blink of an eye, Melody grabbed Bria by the collar and slapped her again and again. When that still didn't seem enough, she also started punching her. Blood quickly ran from Bria's nose.
Then she pulled out a baseball bat and swung it hard at Bria's arm.

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
