Chapter 74 In His Car
The car rolled through the quiet streets toward Westhaven.
They were heading home at the same time.

Ayla did not bother thanking him again. She tried to picture the logo from the place Draven ordered from earlier. She searched it, matched the dishes he picked, and sent the same food to the house.
She ordered half sizes. Four portions were too much for two people.
The restaurant sat closer to the house than the club, so the food arrived fast.
They stepped into the elevator. The delivery had already been left at the door, and Ayla’s phone started buzzing.
A young woman delivered it this time.
The doors opened right as Ayla answered her phone. The delivery girl spotted them and smiled. “Sir, ma’am, your food is here. Hope you two enjoy your meal.”
Ayla froze.
Another misunderstanding. The second one tonight.
Draven did not react at all. Ayla let it slide. They would never see the girl again.
She took the bags and waited until the elevator closed.
Ayla said, “You drove me back, so I’m treating you to a late-night snack.”
That made things even.
Draven did not respond.
Ayla lifted the other bag. “I’ll take this suit to the cleaner. I’ll give it back when it’s ready.”
Draven glanced at her hand, then turned and tapped in his lock code.
Ayla knew he used six ones before. She watched him type.
But the screen lit up with six twos.
Fine. He must have changed it.
He stepped inside without taking the food.
He left the door wide open.
Ayla hurried to the doorway and called out, “Mr. Storm, your food.”

His voice carried from inside. “Bring it in.”
He still had his shoes on. Ayla dropped any thought of going home to grab shoe covers.

She had been here twice already. The place stayed spotless every time. Someone cleaned the house from top to bottom each day.
Ayla used to be alone. This time Draven was here too.
It threw her off a little.
She could still deal with it.
Ayla set the suit bag down. She placed the takeout on the dining table. She unpacked it with smooth, practiced movements, as if she had done this routine countless times.
Draven washed his hands and sat at the table.
Ayla said, “Mr. Storm, enjoy your meal. Good night.”
She turned to walk out. The man’s voice stopped her. “There is too much here. I cannot finish it.”
Even half of his earlier order looked like a feast. He had ordered for four people. It still felt like a mountain of food.
Ayla wanted to go home and collapse in bed. She hesitated. He already lifted his fork and looked away.
Ayla let go of the idea of saying no. Refusing too many times felt rude. It was only a late-night snack.
She sat across from him. She picked up a spare disposable fork.
She had eaten almost nothing before the charity event. Then she worked under pressure for hours. Her stomach felt empty. She ate slowly and steady. The warm, simple food relaxed her more than she expected.
Draven poked at his plate. He left several dishes untouched.
It’s not what he likes?
Ayla remembered everything he ordered earlier. She was sure she chose correctly.
The leftovers probably matched the tastes of James and the others.
He was more attentive than she had guessed.
He was more attentive than she had guessed.
Ayla expected silence to last. Draven broke it. “Why did Bria come at you today?”
“I made her mad.”

Draven clearly did not like that answer. Bria had the patience of a firecracker. Anything could set her off. Even daylight could have done it.

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
