Between Ayla and Draven, Troy was still in the middle.
This time, would Troy be completely abandoned by Ayla?
"Really? I haven't heard such good news in a long time. If Troy were doing well, I might actually be furious."
Ayla smiled, and it was a genuine smile.
She truly hoped Troy would never recover for the rest of his life. That way, he could stay hidden like a coward and never come out to cause trouble again.
Max could sense Ayla's attitude. Troy clearly had no chance anymore. She didn't even want to hear anything about him. But the last time, when they had been at Draven's place, Ayla hadn't looked like this.
"Did he mess with you again?"
Ayla let out a cold laugh. "When has Troy ever not messed with me?"
She had been weak and sick, and Troy had used the child to threaten and provoke her, saying she would never be allowed to see the child again. Some threats might have worked, but once her bottom line was crossed, Ayla had no interest in playing house with him anymore.
If he could say something like that, with emotions that unstable and extreme, what kind of father could he possibly be?
Didn't Troy want to take the child? Ayla had already decided to raise the child on her own. Until the child was older, Troy wouldn't be seeing them.
"Max, to be honest, things between me and Troy have gotten to this point where even hearing about him makes me feel sick. Who cares whether he's doing well or not? If he's doing well, I'm unhappy. If he's doing badly, I feel satisfied. But now, I don't even want to spare that much attention for him."
Ayla picked up her coffee, took a sip, set the cup down, and tapped her fingers lightly on the table. "Do you know why?"
Max didn't ask. He just signaled with his eyes for her to continue.
"You all used to say I was the clingy one. Now you've seen it. Troy is the real clingy one."
Ayla sneered. "I know he'll keep making trouble and keep coming after me, but it doesn't matter. He can do whatever he wants. I stopped caring about him a long time ago."
If it weren't for the child, Ayla would still be with Draven now, and Troy would already be a thing of the past. It was only because of the child that everything had become complicated. At the time, she had been confused and hadn't thought things through. She had even hoped Troy could be a good father.
Reality had taught her otherwise.
Troy couldn't even manage to respect her. Expecting him to be a good father had been asking too much.
Since he couldn't do it, then so be it. He didn't need to be one.
Max thought back to how Troy had acted before the divorce. Back then, Troy had been arrogant and indifferent toward Ayla. He hadn't taken her seriously at all. To him, she had been someone he could summon or dismiss whenever he wanted. He didn't care about her in the slightest. Because of that, none of his friends had respected Ayla either. And Troy had allowed those friends to mock and belittle her openly.

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
