At some point, Kaleb had shown up, and Shirley was with him.
Both of their expressions looked off.
Bria's mind went completely blank. It hit her out of nowhere. Her heart seemed to stop for a second, then started pounding in wild, panicked bursts, like a thief caught red-handed.
She tightened her grip on her bag, trying to figure out what the hell was happening.
Andrew and Renee were just as shocked. They exchanged a quick glance, their faces turning grim.
They hadn't expected Kaleb and Shirley to come together, and judging by their expressions, they had clearly heard everything. In that moment, neither Andrew nor Renee knew how to react. It was too awkward.
How did this happen?
Why would they suddenly show up out of nowhere?
After that moment of blankness, a wave of guilt crept into Bria's chest. Just seconds ago, she'd been talking about how to deal with Kaleb. Now that he'd heard her plan, it should've provoked him, but what she felt more was panic and regret over running her mouth.
She wanted the right moment, not to be exposed like this for no reason.
Then a surge of anger followed. Why did they show up like this? Why didn't they tell me? If they had, I would never have let them hear any of it.
But there was no time to think about that now.
Bria met Kaleb's gaze. It was so heavy that it made it hard for her to breathe. As for Shirley, she didn't even dare look at her.
Her fingers clenched tightly. The entire room fell into a long, suffocating silence before Bria finally spoke slowly. "Uh...when did you get here?”
Kaleb's mind was in complete chaos. His brows were furrowed as he tried to see clearly what kind of person Bria really was.
He'd already changed his opinion of her. He'd even been led by her into this relationship, acting on impulse for the first time in his life. And in the end, it had all been an act from Bria.
It felt absurd, but at the same time, not entirely surprising. He'd always known what kind of person Bria was. She was fully capable of doing something like this.
What shocked him was how he could've been fooled by her so completely in such a short time.
Has my judgment really failed me the moment I got close to her?

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
