Emmett hadn't expected his friend to react so strongly. He rushed over, trying to calm them both down. "Hey, hey, let's just talk this out. Don't do this."
Bria was stung by Kaleb's expression and his words. So the gentler side he showed in Aqualith was just temporary?
That thought triggered a deep fear inside her. Like an animal with its fur standing on end, once fear took hold, she couldn't keep her emotions or even basic rationality in check. Bria's face darkened as she confronted Kaleb, her words cutting sharply. "Kicking me out? You slept with me, and now you're just walking away? What if I'm pregnant with your kid?"
The moment those words fell, the entire living room went eerily silent.
Kaleb's pupils shrank as he stared at Bria again in disbelief.
Emmett's brain couldn't keep up at all. At first, he just took in what Bria said without really processing it, his expression still normal. But three seconds later, seeing Kaleb's reaction, he finally connected the dots, and the realization hit him hard.
I've been around Kaleb every day, so how did I miss something this huge? This is insane!
Emmett was so shocked that he couldn't say a single word. There was no excitement of gossip here. If this had been good news, Kaleb would've told him, and he would've happily congratulated him. But now? He couldn't even tell if his friend had become a heartless jerk or if there was something deeper going on. All he wanted was to get out of there.
Kaleb's mind blanked for a few seconds. When he finally snapped out of it, he grabbed Bria and yanked her to her feet.
Her wrist nearly twisted from the force. She glared at him. "What, feeling guilty?"
Kaleb shot Emmett a look. "Go upstairs."
Emmett felt like he'd just swallowed something too much to handle. Even if he wanted to smooth things over, he didn't have the energy or the nerve anymore.
The two of them looked like they were about to fight, and whatever was going on between them was way beyond anything he could step into.
As a friend, there were lines he couldn't cross.
Especially since they'd already slept together.
Bria looked at his anger and let out a cold laugh, irritation flashing across her face as she mocked him. "Why are you still holding me? What, planning to drag me back to your room? Fine. Let's go. Take me to your bed, and we'll do it again. What do you think?"
Time and time again, Kaleb found himself shocked by how far Bria would go with her words.
His life had always been simple, almost restrained. Compared to her, he was practically the definition of self-disciplined. He didn't joke like that, didn't throw around words so carelessly.
So when Bria said things like this, it made him deeply uncomfortable, like he was being teased, played with.
But for her, it came as naturally as breathing.
Kaleb's expression stiffened. "Bria, I already told you. I'm not going to be with you."
Bria sneered, "This isn't something you get to decide on your own. Why should I listen to you? My whole life, there haven't been many people who could control me. If I want something, I get it. Kaleb, I am gonna be with you. Otherwise, why would I go through all that just to sleep with you? It was to lock you down. You think I've got nothing better to do than waste all this time on you? There are plenty of men out there. You should feel lucky I picked you. Why can't you just accept it? The more you resist, the harder it is for me to let you go. Kaleb, right now, what matters is that you start listening to me!"

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
