Divorce me I'm done serving you (Ayla) novel Chapter 896

James nodded. "Of course. If you don't like something, then you don't have to like it."

He said it so calmly, like it was the most natural thing in the world.

Halle had never met someone like him who didn't overthink or stress himself out.

He was just free.

And people like that were easy to be around. It was hard not to feel happy with him.

Halle realized that James's strength didn't come from what he had on the outside, but from how rich and steady he was inside. As long as she stayed with him, she felt like she would keep getting better.

He really knew how to draw people in.

And she felt like she deserved someone like him.

"Lower your head," she said.

James didn't understand why, but he still leaned down.

Halle kissed him on the cheek.

James immediately broke into a proud, slightly playful grin. "Looks like my charm is off the charts."

Halle smirked. "Think of it as a reward."

Then she turned and walked ahead.

James caught up quickly and wrapped an arm around her waist. "Don't hold back. If you like me, you should reward me more often."

"You've had enough rewards for today."

After they got home, James started asking for a real reward.

Seeing Halle happy made him even happier.

He knew he liked her—no, loved her—a lot.

He had never liked someone this much before. And he was never the type to hide his feelings.

So, he gave her everything, loving her fully, holding nothing back.

...

Some time later, Halle got a message.

Edgar had married Nina.

When she was young, Halle used to imagine her wedding with Edgar. She wanted it to be grand. She wanted everyone she knew to come and witness her happiness. She wanted the whole world to see that she finally had a happy family.

But do childhood dreams always come true?

For some people, maybe.

But not for her. Still, she didn't feel any regret.

Even if she had never met James, she wouldn't regret it. People who weren't right for each other wouldn't end up together anyway. She accepted that.

Hayley paused. "That's true."

But deep down, they both knew—if they weren't family, they would slowly drift apart.

After the call ended, Halle felt a bit sad. But she soon accepted it.

As people grow up, others come and go.

She had once wanted to hold on to certain people. But as she changed, and as Edgar made his own choices, they became people she couldn't keep in her life.

Now, there was space for new people instead.

After Edgar and Nina got married, they held a small wedding. Only close family attended, followed by a simple meal. Nina's parents and relatives were there too.

Edgar didn't get along well with Tyler, so he moved into a new home with Nina instead of living with his parents.

After spending some time with Tyler and Hayley, Nina felt that Hayley was kind—but not very fond of her. Maybe, in her heart, the best daughter-in-law had always been Halle.

As for Tyler, he showed no particular attitude toward Nina.

Instead, he was very kind to her daughter, Bowie. He even urged Nina to have a second child soon.

It didn't take long for Nina to pick up on the clues.

Tyler seemed disappointed in Edgar and had placed his hopes on the next generation—his grandson and granddaughter.

Nina tested this idea a few times, and the more she did, the more certain she became that she was right.
