Unfortunately, if Max didn't want to do something, no one could make him do it.
So, everything depended on fate.
Right now, Max was single and enjoying his life. He had no idea when someone might enter it.
If the right person came along, maybe he would fall in love. If not, then so be it.
Max was born into a great family. His life was already full and colorful. There wasn't much he felt he had to do.
Maybe that was why he saw things so clearly. He could enjoy life fully. Even when things went wrong, he didn't get stuck in it.
Unlike Troy, who might never truly move on. Luckily, he still had his two kids to give him some comfort.
Max, on the other hand, was best at making himself happy.
...
James really gave Halle a strong sense of security. They hadn't even been together for a month, yet he was already introducing her to his family.
Halle had never imagined she would meet his mom so soon.
"Don't overthink it," James said. "I just want you to see that leaving Edgar wasn't a big deal."
The truth was, James was a little jealous of the place Edgar still held in Halle's heart.
He wanted her to understand that there was something better waiting for her.
"Edgar's parents were nice to you, sure," James continued. "But not that nice. Otherwise, they would've noticed something was wrong with him.
"I know you can't fully let go of them. But what you really can't let go of is that tiny bit of warmth. Your own family wasn't great, so when you met something slightly better, it felt amazing. But there are families out there that are even warmer. I'll show you one today."
James looked proud of himself.
Halle couldn't help but smile.
She was already used to his confidence.
"I'm not lying," James added. "At home, I even call my parents by their first names."
Halle's eyes widened. "Really?"
"Yeah. And sometimes they even call me Mr. Reagen. Mostly to tease me."
Halle had never imagined a family like that.
In her eyes, the Bowmans were already pretty warm.
But thinking deeper, Tyler was still strict with Edgar. Hayley had to smooth things over, or the atmosphere would get tense.
If the family had truly been that warm, Edgar wouldn't avoid going home. He wouldn't have grown up so insecure and sensitive.
Still, the Bowmans were much better than her own family.
And now, there was something even more unbelievable.

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
