“Fine, fine, I’m done arguing with you. But we need to be mentally prepared. If it is Zane behind this, what do we do?”

At the mention of Zane, Kaleb immediately thought of Juliet.

Zane was Juliet’s stepson, and the irony of that made Kaleb’s jaw tighten.

He pinched the bridge of his nose. “We crush him. What else?”

What was Zane going to do-complain?

Kaleb wouldn’t care about Juliet. He would absolutely go after the guy.

Of course, only Ayla would be dumb enough to still care about Juliet.

Juliet had long stopped treating the Keatons as family.

Anyone who couldn’t see that-who kept clinging on-ended up like Ayla.

Ayla had fallen apart years ago, circling a man who didn’t love her.

She was the most foolish woman he’d ever seen.

Kaleb knew he was no saint-selfish, cold, indifferent. He had watched Ayla step into a burning pit with her eyes open and never said a word.

Let her get hurt. Let her suffer until she finally woke up. When she finally crawled out, he planned to kick her back down and sneer at her stupidity.

Whatever state Ayla was in now, Kaleb had stopped caring.

And even if he did care-what good would it do?

This family had fallen apart long ago.

Surviving their own messes was already hard enough.

Kaleb suddenly remembered something. “When are you going to ask your brother to come out for a meal? He gave our company a hundred million-I should thank him in person.”

Kaleb refused to take Ayla’s money.

Emmett had simply asked Troy to “cooperate,” so Kaleb didn’t think too much of it.

“He’s insanely busy. Forget it.” Emmett said. “We have plenty going on anyway.”

Kaleb didn’t push it.

There were indeed bigger problems to solve.

It wasn’t until Monday after work that they finally confirmed it.

RuneLogic really was behind the attack.

After tracking Zane’s location, Kaleb grabbed his car keys and left.

Emmett tried to stop him-failed-and instantly called Ayla.

“Ayla! RuneLogic hacked our entire database. Kaleb’s already on his way to fight them-I can’t hold him back!”

He didn’t bother hiding anything now. “RuneLogic is backed by Winston Group. If they start a fight, the one we provoke is Troy’s family. We’ll be dead. Only you can stop this!”

Ayla’s grip on her phone tightened. “Send me the address.”

“Right away!”

“You need to hold Kaleb off. Don’t let him touch anyone.”

“Okay, I’ll find more people!”

Emmett didn’t like meddling in Ayla’s personal life, but right now, he had no choice.

Ayla hung up.

Sacha looked over. “What’s wrong? You look pale.”

“Something came up.” Ayla stood. “I need to make a call.”

“Go ahead. If you need help, tell me.”

Ayla walked into the break room. She pulled up Troy Winston’s number. No hesitation-she dialed.

He picked up almost instantly.

It was suspiciously fast, too.

“Was it you?”

Ayla didn’t explain anything-but Troy still replied with a low, indifferent “Mm.”

“So, because I refused to quit my job, you retaliate like this?”

“You don’t listen. This is your own fault.” Troy’s tone was calm, elegant even.

But what he said was vicious. “By the way, that hickey from last night-did Draven see it? What was his reaction? Jealous?”

Disgusting.

“Troy, do you understand what divorce means? It means whatever I do has nothing to do with you anymore-”

“Oh, I know. But you crossed my line. Ayla, if you’d just behave, none of this would’ve happened.”

Then, he hung up.

One kiss mark wasn’t enough punishment. He needed something bigger. He wanted her to quit immediately.
