Of course, Bria still had to face the scrutiny of Kaleb's family.
That was what worried her more.
She wanted to face it herself.
But Kaleb said, "I'll handle my family. You don't need to worry about it."
Bria was anxious. "What about your sister? And your aunt? Do they really not have a problem with me?"
She knew her reputation was awful.
"Even if they do, it doesn't matter," Kaleb replied. "I'm not asking for permission. I'm letting them know."
Bria was swooning. The way Kaleb stepped up and took charge made her fall for him all over again. All the things she'd been losing sleep over didn't seem like a big deal to him at all.
Kaleb said, "The way you stood up to your family gave me a lot of confidence. You were amazing. I saw how hard you fought for us, and it moved me. So of course I won't hold you back."
Kaleb rarely said anything this direct or romantic.
To Bria, it felt like she'd finally found her own guardian angel.
So, she was going to stay with Kaleb forever!
When Ayla heard that Kaleb and Bria were together, she was floored.
After all, ever since they first met, they had clashed constantly, with absolutely irreconcilable differences. Even as recently as last year, they'd been fighting nonstop overseas, like sworn enemies from a past life.
How could Ayla have ever seen this coming?
She was at work when Kaleb stopped by her office.
He briefly explained how he and Bria had gotten together. Since the Winstons already knew, he felt it was only right to tell her as well.
Ayla blinked.
She sat in her office, trying to process everything he'd just said. She was genuinely stunned. "Let me get this straight. You're secretly dating someone, and that someone is Bria?"
Kaleb always said he didn't care what other people thought about his love life. But Ayla mattered to him. She was one of the most important people in his life, along with his nephew and niece.
Still, when Ayla pressed him for details, Kaleb couldn't help feeling a little nervous. But he was a cool guy, so he played it off. "Why do you look so shocked?"
"Because I'm shocked," Ayla said. "Very shocked. You actually have a girlfriend? Is this real?"
Kaleb couldn't even look at her. "You're usually so smart, but right now, it's like you're not even listening to me. I said I'm in a relationship. I'm dating Bria. Got it?"

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
