Ayla’s turning point after the divorce happened back at the rehabilitation center-the day she ran into Juliet.

Juliet’s heart was no longer with her.

The more Ayla hoped, the more she suffered.

She hadn’t planned to call Juliet tonight. But after hacking the bar’s surveillance and hearing Zane run his filthy mouth, she wanted Juliet here to see-to see exactly what kind of trash her precious stepson really

was.

But Juliet’s reaction now? Completely, unmistakably, on Zane’s side

Of course. She wasn’t who she used to be.

Juliet froze for half a second at Ayla’s cold, level tone.

Why was Ayla so distant?

Because Juliet was shocked, she didn’t respond in time.

So, Ayla pulled out her phone and called the police herself.

Zane lunged to snatch the phone.

Kaleb kicked him back and snatched the phone from Ayla’s hand, slamming the call closed.

“Calling the cops is MY call, not yours. Stop sticking your nose into my business. Leave. Right now. Before I tell you to get lost.”

Ayla retorted, “… This involves me. I need to check your company’s system myself.”

Kaleb let out a harsh laugh. “You want to help me solve it?”

Ayla replied, “… Yes. I can code.”

Kaleb sneered. “And what exactly can your level of coding do?”

After the jab, he slapped the phone back into her palm.

Then, almost absentmindedly, he pulled Ayla behind him-shielding her-before turning that wolfish stare on Juliet.

Cold. Hostile. Feral.

He’d fully switched sides.

“Juliet, I’m here to help you discipline your little ungrateful stepson. If you’re heartbroken about it, then go ahead-call the cops. Let them drag him away. Maybe they can help you raise him.”

He had taken those early punches from Zane on purpose-he’d been ready to spend a night in a holding cell if needed.

Who swung first mattered.

Even if Kaleb ended up detained, Zane would lose far more.

Zane’s vision went red.

“Bullshit! He’s here for revenge! He’s accusing me of hacking his trash company!”

“And that stops me from beating the hell out of you?” Kaleb replied.

Zane started trembling, rage boiling over.

He grabbed another bottle, ready to smash someone again.

The manager had seen enough-security swarmed him.

Kaleb’s lashes were pitch black, his stare colder than iron. “Zane, if I find even one shred of proof you hit our servers, I swear to God-I am not done with you. You hear me, beggar boy?”

Kaleb’s mouth was lethal. No one could take it.

Zane nearly lost it. “Aunt Juliet! Call the cops! If I go down, I’m dragging Kaleb in with me!”

Juliet finally snapped back to reality. “No-”

“Aunt Juliet! Did you hear what he just called me? I can’t stand this!”

“If you go to jail, your father will kill you,” Juliet said sharply. “You’ve never suffered a day in your life. You think you can survive a jail cell?”

The mention of his dad turned Zane rigid.

The thought of suffering and actual hardship was enough to make him break into a cold sweat.

But then something clicked. His face changed completely. “No, Juliet-it’s fine. My sister and Troy are good friends. Mr. Winston will help me. If anything happens, they won’t put me in jail. Only Kaleb will go

in.”

The siblings had thrown him off track.

He almost forgot about Skyla’s ties to Troy.

That was his weapon. His whole spine.

With Troy behind him, Zane felt invincible.

He puffed up instantly. “Kaleb, you don’t want to go to jail, do you? Your company-who’s going to run it, huh? That pretty boy Emmett? He can’t handle it. And honestly, your stupid game should’ve died early—

He laughed louder, meaner. “Aunt Juliet, hurry up and call the cops. I’m fine. I’ve got Mr. Winston behind

me.”

He threw Ayla a mocking look.
