Chapter 93 Juliet Arrives at the Scene
“She can’t control anything-can she beat Zane? No? Then why the hell is she blocking me!”
Kaleb stepped right up to Ayla.
His presence crashed down like a storm front.
Ayla didn’t retreat. He pushed closer anyway.
They were standing almost nose to nose now.

He was almost a full head taller now. She looked too small beside him, and he’d long stopped being afraid of her-especially when it came to fighting.
“Take one more step in my way, and I’ll knock you flat.”
Ayla didn’t dare lay a finger on Zane-not with Juliet in the picture. She could only threaten to call the
cops.
And what would that change?
Zane had Winston Group behind him. Even if he spent a night in a holding cell, he’d walk out untouched. Useless.
Kaleb came here for one reason: to beat Zane until he felt better.
Ayla said nothing.
Kaleb snapped, “I’m not joking!”
Emmett tried to grab his arm.
Kaleb shook him off and jabbed a finger at his nose. “Don’t you dare try to manage me!”
Emmett snapped back, “You-!”

Ayla looked at the blood on Kaleb’s mouth and forehead. “You want to waste breath on an idiot, be my guest. But you’re bruised all over and still didn’t get much out of it. If you could actually flatten him one- sided, I’d cheer you on. Since you can’t-stand down.”
Kaleb was at a loss for words.
Did she just call him embarrassing?
Embarrassing? Him? What a joke.
He let Zane get a few hits in-on purpose.
Zane was a chicken. How could Ayla possibly think Zane beat him?

What a joke.
Was Ayla out of her mind?
How could she think Zane had beaten him up?
Emmett was the one speechless now.
Holy crap. This is Ayla?
Earlier at the hospital, she’d still looked soft, wounded.
Now? Cold, sharp, absolutely dominant. Even Kaleb couldn’t talk back.

He’d always wondered whether they were actually related-too different. But this sealed it: They were exactly the same kind of cold-faced, sharp-tongued siblings.
Even the bar manager blinked in disbelief.
He thought she’d break up the fight. Instead, she poured gasoline on the fire.
Nobody here was normal.
Zane took a good few seconds to catch up.
Ayla had just insulted him-completely, thoroughly-through implication and subtext.
He nearly exploded.
While Ayla talked to Kaleb, Zane grabbed a bottle and swung it straight at the back of her head.
It was a blatant sneak attack.
Hard swing-enough to send her to the ER with a concussion.
Kaleb reacted first. He yanked Ayla behind him and smashed the bottle aside with his forearm.
Glass hit bone with a dull crack. His eyes went murderous-like a young predator—and he lunged.
Zane really didn’t know when to stop, did he?
The manager was stunned speechless by Zane’s brain-dead stunt. Then, he was immediately stunned again by Kaleb’s killing intent. He shouted for security.
The guards waded in to pull them apart and got the worst of it.
The manager grabbed his phone, calling the owner-Max-to come ASAP.
At the same time, Juliet arrived.
She stepped in right as Kaleb was landing blow after blow on Zane, fists thudding into flesh. She nearly

blacked out. “Zane! Kaleb! Stop this at once!”
Ayla had been the one to call her.
Juliet wasn’t surprised to see her.
Hearing Juliet’s anxious “Zane,” Ayla didn’t react at all.
But Kaleb-held back by security-locked his gaze on Ayla.
He expected her to look starry-eyed at Juliet like before. To cling to her approval.
Instead, Ayla was calm. Too calm.
What was up with her?
Kaleb’s brow twitched.

If she softened even a little, he would shove her aside and ignore her again. He didn’t need her meddling.
Zane immediately ran to Juliet, switching from rabid attack dog to pitiful victim. “Aunt Juliet, thank God you’re here. Kaleb came to pick a fight. His sister called me brain-dead. Please say something-this is too much!”
Kaleb snorted. “Of course. Born a beggar, die a beggar.”
Zane shook with fury. “Aunt Juliet! You heard him!”
Juliet’s anger flared. “Kaleb! How dare you talk like that?!”

Why is half of each of these chapters missing? The story sort of trails off in the middle of the chapter. That’s unfortunate....
