Divorce you and marry him novel Chapter 20

Chapter 20

He took two steps forward, drawing closer to the edge of the cliff.

Brayden’s gaze sharpened, and he pulled Katherine a little farther back.

Nicholas seemed utterly unaware. He turned around and looked at Katherine, a strange smile appearing on his face, one that was almost relieved.

“Katie, back then I chose Samantha and owed you a life.” His voice was very soft, scattered by the wind. “Now, I’ll give my life back to you, all right?”

Before the words had even faded, under everyone’s horrified gaze, he actually leaped forward, throwing himself into the abyss below!

“Nicholas!” Brayden’s expression changed abruptly. He shouted sharply and instinctively reached out to grab him, but caught only a torn scrap of clothing.

The bodyguards cried out and rushed forward, but the edge of the cliff was already empty, leaving only the howling mountain wind.

Katherine’s body swayed almost imperceptibly. Her face turned slightly pale, and her fingers instinctively clenched the sleeve of Brayden’s clothes.

Brayden immediately pulled her into his arms, blocking her view, and gave a low command: “Go down and search! I want him found alive or his body brought back dead!”

The bodyguards moved quickly, searching for a path down the cliff.

The waiting felt exceptionally long.

Katherine leaned against Brayden’s chest, her body somewhat stiff, her gaze fixed on empty space, lost in thought.

Brayden held her tightly and comforted her in a low voice: “Don’t be afraid. I’m here.”

After an unknown amount of time, shouts came from below: “We found him! He’s still alive! He’s stuck in a tree!”

After much more time had passed, several bodyguards used ropes and a makeshift stretcher to carry up Nicholas, who was covered in blood and barely clinging to life.

I 288 Vouchers He had been lucky enough to land on an old tree jutting out from the cliff face, which slowed his fall. Still, no one knew how many bones were broken. His face and body were covered in abrasions, blood continuously spilling from his mouth. He was breathing out, but scarcely breathing in.

When he saw Katherine, his unfocused eyes somehow gathered a trace of faint light.

With great effort, he raised his mangled, bloodied hand, trying to grasp the hem of Katherine’s clothes. His lips trembled, his voice barely a thread of breath:

“Katie… Katie… please… please… for… forgive me…”

With every word he spoke, even more bloody foam poured from the corner of his mouth.

The bodyguards looked at Brayden, and Brayden looked at Katherine.

Everyone was watching her.

Katherine straightened up from Brayden’s arms and walked, step by step, to the stretcher, lowering her head to look at the man she had once loved to the bone and hated just as deeply.

In his eyes was a plea so humble it reached the extreme, as if all it would take was a single nod from her for him to die in peace.

Katherine looked at him for a long time.

Then, she slowly bent down.

A final burst of light flared in Nicholas’s eyes.

However, Katherine merely reached out and gently brushed aside the hand that was trying to grasp her.

The movement was gentle, yet carried an unquestionable finality.

“Nicholas,” she looked at him, her voice clear and calm, each word shattering his last trace of illusion, “I do not forgive you.”

The light in Nicholas’s eyes went out instantly, turning into a lifeless, ashen gray.

Katherine straightened up, no longer looking at him, and turned to walk toward Brayden.

When she reached Brayden, she stopped, lifted her face, and looked at the man who had reached out to her when she fell into the abyss, giving her stability and a new life.

Then, before everyone’s eyes, and under Nicholas’s dying gaze, she reached out, wrapped her arms
