Divorce you and marry him novel Chapter 16

Chapter 16

Twelve hours, as long as a century.

By the time Nicholas had been kneeling for so long, he could no longer feel his legs at all, his consciousness drifting between icy numbness and stupor.

A raging fever swept over him; his vision darkened in waves, and a persistent buzzing filled his

cars.

But he clenched his teeth and forced himself to endure.

When the first sliver of daylight spilled into the garden, Brayden’s figure appeared at the doorway.

“Time’s up,” he said blandly.

Nicholas moved his cracked lips, wanting to say something, but no sound came out.

He tried to stand, but his legs were completely numb, and he crashed heavily to the ground.

Struggling, he propped himself up with his arms and, inch by inch, painfully dragged himself toward the door.

Brayden did not help him, merely watching with cold indifference.

Nicholas was half-dragged, half-carried by two bodyguards and thrown into a room.

Someone changed him into clean, dry clothes.

He fell into a dazed sleep, only to jolt awake again.

That’s right-today was the day Brayden and Katherine were getting married.

He rolled off the bed abruptly and staggered out of the room,

Like a walking corpse, Nicholas pushed through the noisy crowd and headed for the church.

He happened to see Katherine, dressed in a simple wedding gown, walking step by step toward Brayden,

The priest asked loudly, “Does anyone object…”

Nicholas’s blood rushed straight to his head; all reason, all restraint, were flung far beyond recall.

He roared, charging in with all his remaining strength, shoving aside the guests and servants blocking his way.

“Don’t-!!!”

The hoarse, shattered shout brought the wedding atmosphere to an abrupt halt.

Everyone stared in shock at the uninvited intruder who had burst in, looking utterly deranged.

Katherine’s body stiffened almost imperceptibly, and she slowly turned around.

Beneath the veil, she saw Nicholas.

He was thinner and more haggard than the last time she had seen him, his eyes sunken, his beard unkempt; only those eyes remained, terrifyingly bright, burning with despair and madness.

“Katie…” Nicholas staggered toward her, reaching for her hand, but Brayden stepped sideways and blocked him.

Brayden pulled Katherine behind him. The smile remained on his face, but his gaze had already frozen over. “Mr. Padilla, today is my wedding. If you are here to offer your blessings, you are welcome. If you are here to cause trouble…”

Before he could finish speaking, several bodyguards moved forward silently.

Nicholas did not even glance at the bodyguards. He stared fixedly at Katherine’s blurred silhouette beneath the veil, his voice trembling beyond control. “Katie, don’t marry him… I was wrong, I really know I was wrong… Look, I sent Samantha away! I even gave up the inheritance to someone else. I want nothing anymore. I only want you. Please, come back to me…”

His words tumbled out incoherently. Suddenly, he pulled a dagger from his clothes, shoved it into Katherine’s hand, then grabbed her hand and pressed the blade’s tip against his own heart.

“You hate me, don’t you? You hate me for getting rid of our child, for choosing her again and again, for making you suffer, for letting you walk in the rain… Kill me! Katie, kill me! As long as it eases your hatred, you can have my life! I’m begging you, don’t marry someone else… don’t abandon me…”

He wept openly, tears and snot streaming down his face, utterly undignified, like a child who had lost the most precious thing in the world.

The entire hall of guests was silent, all of them stunned by the horrifying scene.
