“She’s never liked my sister. She forced my sister to divorce her son, just so she could split them up,” Jennifer explained to Fiona.

“My sister got divorced all because of that old…” Jennifer almost blurted out “witch,” but held herself back. “It was all because Irene never liked her.”

Fiona frowned. “Is that so? I didn’t know that. I’ll ask Irene when I get back.”

“Feel free to ask her. She’ll just try to dodge responsibility. She always blames everything on my sister anyway,” Jennifer said.

“If she tries to dodge responsibility, I won’t let her get away with it. That’s my business, not yours,” Fiona assured her.

Just then, someone reminded Fiona that visiting hours were over. Fiona turned to Jennifer and said, “You need to really think about what you’ve done. When you get out, don’t go down the wrong path again.”

Fiona still couldn’t help but feel disappointed. Jennifer, the student she was once so proud of, was disheveled and gaunt.

She wanted to know what Donald was really trying to do. He was already divorced from Jennifer, so he had no reason to tell Evelyn about it. And he didn’t even show up in court that day.
