Ashton spoke in a flat tone, his expression neutral. However, it was precisely his cold indifference that made Roxy feel uncomfortable. How could a person change so quickly?

They had been married for ten years. Had he just moved on from it without feeling any attachment left?

Meanwhile, Calvin and Sylvia were both relieved to hear Ashton’s answer.

“Fine. Do whatever you want!” Roxy retorted with a scoff. “I have no say in where you stay, but you must promise me one thing!”

“What’s that?”

“Don’t have any more contact with people like Gene Larson. It won’t do you any good! If you ever end up in prison, your criminal record will affect Celia for life, too. What if she wants to work for the government in the future? If she fails the background check, it’ll be your fault!” Roxy warned.

“You’ve got nothing to worry about. Celia will only be proud of her father.”

“Why do you not have a single shred of self–awareness, Ashton? Do you think that’s ever going to happen?” Roxy snapped. “It’s already a blessing if you don’t drag Celia down with you. You’re on your own now. Don’t say I didn’t warn you!”

She couldn’t stand to see how intimate Ashton and Sylvia were, so she turned to leave.

“It’s already so dark out, Roxy. Why don’t you let me spend the night in the study? Don’t worry. I won’t do anything out of line,” Calvin suggested, his eyes gleaming sharply.

Since Ashton could stay with Sylvia, why couldn’t he spend the night in the Sloan residence?

Knowing what Roxy was like, surely she would agree to it, even if it was just to get even with Ashton. And once he got his foot through the door, Roxy would undoubtedly end up in his hands.

He could easily sneak into her room in the middle of the night…

Roxy didn’t expect Calvin to bring this up again. When she thought about how Ashton was deliberately provoking her, she became tempted by Calvin’s suggestion, too.

“Roxy! You’re back! Oh. You’re here too, Calvin? Have you and Roxy patched things up?”

At that moment, Renee came out of the house, dressed in a black strappy nightgown. She had a faint smile on her face that made her look sweet and innocent.

“Renee, Ashton has deliberately joined forces with Sylvia to humiliate Roxy. He’s even shameless enough to move into Sylvia’s place! Thank goodness Roxy is about to divorce that scumbag,” Calvin loudly declared.

“What?” Renee was startled, her mouth gaping. She couldn’t help but take a closer look at Sylvia.

When she saw how attractive Sylvia was, she quickly pulled Roxy to the side and urged, “Roxy, hurry up and admit to Ashton that you made a mistake! What if he ends up getting stolen away by some other woman? By then, it’ll be too late for regrets!”

Roxy looked utterly displeased. “What nonsense are you spouting?”

Why would she be worried about someone stealing a man she didn’t even want anymore? Besides, she would never regret the decisions she made.

“Why don’t you get it, Roxy? Think about it! Why would a woman like Sylvia set her sights on Ashton the moment you two decide to get a divorce? You’re the only one who can’t see what a catch he is!” Renee argued frantically. “It’s not too late to patch things up, Roxy. I’m sure Ashton still has feelings for you. But if you keep pushing him away like that, one day, it’ll be too late!”

“Sylvia is just putting on an act with Ashton to piss me off,” Roxy retorted. “Don’t tell me you seriously think she’d take a liking to him. It’s such a pathetic trick!”

“Roxy-”

“That’s enough. I don’t know what kind of spell Ashton has cast on you to make you try to persuade me on his behalf, but my mind is made up. He can stay wherever he wants and be with whoever he wants! It has nothing to do with me anymore,” Roxy firmly declared.

However, she was still hesitant about whether she should let Calvin stay the night at the Sloan residence.

“Hey! What are you doing? Who said you could enter the house?” Renee barked when she saw Calvin tailing after Roxy.

Calvin’s expression darkened. His gaze swept over Renee’s delicate features and graceful curves. He thought to himself that once he seized control of the Sloan family’s assets, he was definitely going to make both sisters please him in bed!

But on the surface, he said pleasantly, “It won’t be easy to get a cab at this hour, so Roxy has decided to let me spend the night here.”

“No way! Ashton already said that strangers are not allowed to get anywhere near Celia. Don’t even think about staying in our house!”
