Kayla reached out, trying to stop Ashton. However, he turned his head around and eyed her coldly. “If you want your grandpa to live a few more years, keep quiet.”
Shockingly, Kayla felt intimidated by Ashton’s imposing air. Biting her lip, she snarled, “If anything happens to him, Ashton, I’ll make you pay!”
“If I fail to treat Mr. Clarkson Senior, I’m willing to be at your mercy. But if I do manage to treat him, what are you going to do?” Ashton questioned.
He continued to look Kayla square in the eye, determined to teach her a lesson.
Frowning, Kayla spat out through gritted teeth, “If you do manage to save Grandpa, I’ll spend a night with you. But if you fail, you must never show up in front of him again!”
Ashton studied Kayla’s curvaceous figure.
“What are you looking at!” Kayla fumed.
Noting her attitude, Ashton scoffed. “You said it yourself. If I save Mr. Clarkson Senior, you’ll need to spend a night with me. You won’t be going back on your word, right?”
“I always keep my word.”
“Good. You should prepare yourself for a cozy night with me, then,” Ashton replied before turning back around to continue performing acupuncture on Lawrence.
Sighing, Lawrence remarked, “You young folks…”
“Trust me, Mr. Clarkson Senior,” Ashton said.
“Hahaha! I do, of course. Go ahead and do whatever you must!” Lawrence breezily declared.
Scurrying over to Kayla, Clay muttered, “Who’s that, Kayla? Why does Mr. Clarkson Senior hold him in such high regard?”
His eyes were now brimming with hostility toward Ashton.
It was the first time he’d ever seen the notoriously ruthless Lawrence being this genial with a young man and addressing him in such an affectionate tone.
And if Ashton did, in fact, treat Lawrence, was Kayla seriously going to sleep with him?
She was his!
He wasn’t going to let anyone steal her away from him, not even for a single night!
“He’s just some nobody who popped up out of nowhere!” Kayla declared, his eyes red. “If Grandpa’s condition worsens because of him, I’ll make him pay for it!”
“I’ll always be on your side, Kayla!”
“As if I need you to be on my side!” Kayla retorted as she stepped away, putting more distance between them.
“Don’t feel any pressure, Ashton. Just try your best. Even if you can’t do anything, it’s fine. I’m nothing more than an old bag of bones now. My time’s up!” Lawrence said warmly. “Besides, now that I’ve found a successor for the Legion, I can die without regrets…”

He genuinely treated Ashton as family.
“You won’t be dying, Mr. Clarkson Senior, not with me here,” Ashton declared.
The dark glint in his eyes seemed to brighten as he pulled his focus together and rotated the needle in Lawrence’s brow.
Through the needle, wisps of inner energy were channeled into Lawrence’s body, which Ashton used to check on Lawrence’s condition.
Suddenly, his heart jolted, and he stared at Lawrence in horror.
From what he could detect, Lawrence’s body was in a state of complete breakdown. His organs looked like they’d been forcibly sewn together. His meridians and bones were cracked and broken in numerous places. It was only his incredibly powerful inner energy that was just barely keeping him alive.
Worse still, Lawrence was also suffering from devastating internal injuries, filled with multiple sources of weaponized energy, one of which was even right on the edge of his heart, threatening to kill him at any given moment!
Ashton had never seen someone this severely injured before.
