“That’s outrageous! Roxy Sloan is Ashton’s wife–how could you mishandle this? Go to the Sloan residence yourself right now with the gold invitation. Be polite, be sincere, and make sure to invite the whole Sloan family to attend the Auric Night gala! Hurry!” Cadence ordered.
Millie nodded hastily. Then, she took the gold invitation and headed to the Sloan residence.
“Ms. Hohl, what brings you here?” Roxy and her family were stunned to see Millie.
In Javonbury’s business circle, Millie’s name carried serious weight. In some ways, she was basically Cadence’s stand–in.
“Ms. Sloan, I’m here to deliver your new invitation for Auric Night. Please do us the honor of attending this evening with your entire family.”
Millie was all smiles, but her eyes flashed with a hint of jealousy as she looked at Roxy.
To think someone like Roxy was actually Ashton’s wife! Only the heavens knew what she’d done to deserve such an honor.
As Cadence’s secretary, Millie knew perfectly well that these days, the Gale Assembly effectively followed Ashton’s lead.
“It’s a gold invitation!” Tanya looked delighted. “Roxy, you’re really leveling up! Look at you, receiving a gold invitation! We’re going to make a splash at this year’s Auric Night!”
Roxy’s face lit up as well, and pride swelled in her chest. She’d finally earned recognition from her peers. A gold Auric Night invitation was reserved only for true business heavyweights. As far as she knew, both Sylvia and Natalie had only received silver invitations.
“Thank you for coming all the way, Ms. Hohl. Please, come in for some tea,” Roxy said courteously.
“Oh, it’s fine. Just be sure to arrive early with your partner, Ms. Sloan. I’ve got other matters to handle, so I’ll head out now. See you tonight!”
Millie waved Roxy goodbye.
“My partner?”
Roxy was confused for a beat. Then, she understood.
She and Ashton had only filed for divorce, and they still needed to wait a month until things were finalized. Most people didn’t know that she was technically single again.
“Roxy, there will be plenty of VIPs and socialites at the Auric Night gala. If you meet someone suitable, make sure to chat them up and get to know them better. Make that punk Ashton live in regret for the rest of his life!”
Tanya’s face contorted with hatred when she thought about how she’d once kneeled to Ashton and how he’d humiliated her.
If she ran into him again, she’d make sure to shame him with everything she had!
Roxy didn’t respond. She was completely disillusioned with Calvin and had no desire to start anything new at

Holding the gold invitation, she brushed off the gloom of Summit Lounge’s closure and murmured, “Ashton, my network and resources will ascend to another league tonight. My business empire won’t stall because you’re
gone.
“I’ll be the tide–turner of this era and a great woman. As for you, you’ll vanish into dust, anonymous and forgotten. Divorcing you was absolutely the best decision of my life.”
“Roxy, take me with you tonight. I want to expand my horizons!”
Robert looked at the gold invitation, clearly proud by association.
“Dad’s tied up with something, so you and Mom can come with me. Remember to dress sharp and make connections with promising young talent–it’ll help your future,” Roxy said.
“Got it!” Robert chirped.
Tanya beamed. “Oh, you’re just getting better and better. That bastard better not let me catch him, or I’ll make sure he pays for what he did!”
“Mom, Calvin said he managed to get Dr. Donahue to treat your stomach problems. He’ll bring Dr. Donahue to the gala tonight. Maybe your stomach will be cured this very evening!”
